Here's a little wrap up of recent events that have lead me to this:

1) My son is almost 7 months old. Getting him in and out of his rear facing car seat is murder. Especially if I'm tired, or hurting for any reason.

2) My fuel economy maxes out at around 21.74 MPG if I drive 95%+ highway at about 80MPH (flow of traffic). I could probably ebb out 23 MPG if I went slower, but my commute is already 45-75 minutes each way. I really don't need to make it longer and piss off other commuters in the process.

3) Consuming oil with revised engine.

4) Driver's door handle broke from the inside out. Still need to disassemble the door to fix this.

5) Passenger side window regulator went out and won't hold up window. Need to get a new motor and fix that TOO.

Everything except the oil consumption (I don't have much control over that) will be fixed prior to cleaning it and trying to sell it. I may go back to an I30 until I'm done with school. We'll see.

Sorry you have to part with your G

When my kids were babies cars didn't have airbags and everybody just put the kids in the front seat. It was a lot easier. I had to climb in the backseat of my '86 Camaro a few times to get the kids in and out of the seat. That is a tough maneuver.

I've contemplated puting my son in the front seat, but my wife would flip out. The G35 coupe has a button to turn off the front passenger air bag. Actually, the car seat probably wouldn't even weigh enough to trip the weight sensor in that seat to keep the air bag enabled, but whatever.

Trouble is...most car enthusiasts think with their heart and not their brain. I know I have bought many a car that really wasn't the smartest decision, but I have always loved my cars!

Can't afford it unfortunately. That's why I was thinking another I30. Sad to down grade that much, but reliability is a ton better with the VQ30DE. Having an EGR system plagued with problems isn't such a great thing though...

We'll see. Scooby still sounds nice, but might be more fun than functional.

I didn't have one either when I bought the G. Weird stuff happens when you're not expecting it.

Good choice Nate and good luck with the sale. Can I ask you why not just go with an entry level car? If I were you I would buy a brand new small car. Like Micra or the new Fiesta or Fit.

You get warranty for years and a good gasmilage.

1-Get a front facing seat. or side facing2- If you want 23 mpg, try driving 135% highway, or reduce speed to 77mph and add 2psi to tires.3- By driving a wee bit slower, engine revs less, consumes less oil. Switch to slightly higher viscosity oil.4-Be more gentle with your door-opening action. And its like $455-Someone may have tried to break in. That could be why its busted. Window motor: 80730-CD00A Regulator: 80720-AM811 Hope my 5 solutions convince you to keep the G thirty feezy

I keep my dash thingy on the vacuum gauge. (I guess that is what they still call them). It is amazing to see how your driving habits use the fuel. When I'm accelerating, the mileage is about zero...cruising it can get up to about 40mpg. I try to keep it as smooth and even as possible in just normal driving. Of course, I'm not going to let that stop me from getting an occasional wild hair and nailing it. I didn't buy that car to drive it like an old woman.

1- Rear facing seats are safest in frontal crashes. If my son is front facing now, his head will fly forward on impact and his little shoulders and ribs will tall all of the impact force. When he is rear facing, his entire back absorbs the impact. I just read something saying that rear facing up to 4 years old has been shown to be safer. I'll probably keep him that way until he's 1.

2- I'll try the lower speed. I'm also noticing that the type of gas used makes a difference. Best option has been the Mobil near my office. Shell was giving me some poor numbers, so I went on a no-shell-diet.

3- This would counteract #2 as the higher viscosity oil will also affect fuel economy.

4- I've got the part. Actually, I had to purchase both the inner door handle part as well as the estucheon (or however you spell it). The plastic tabs broke off. The fun part is going to be disassembling the damned door and window.

5- I can't tell if it's the regulator or the motor. I'm thinking the regulator because I can hold down the reset button and get the window up and down with a couple of hiccups along the way. Any advice?

Sorry zozo. I hate economy cars. The only one I've been in recently that wasn't have bad was the Yaris. Rear suspension was super anemic, but that just means you keep light weight passengers back there. I think an older car that I can pay off would be better. Lower insurance and less of a hit when you need to make repairs.

Nate, very sorry to hear! However, I understand. We went from sporty cars to baby hawlers back in the day.

Had a Taurus station wagon for almost 10 years. Actually, it was one of the best cars that we ever owned.Lots of space for strollers, baby pins, etc....plus, it had a roof rack!It also drove much better than a van on the HW.If we were to go thru that phase again, I think we would do a pathfinder. But, hopefully you will find something a bit more sporty!!

Sorry to hear man, it's a hard decision but at least you're here discussing your next move If I were you I'd just get a purple nissan with FWD. Just don't go with a ford taurus wagon.

How many vehicles to you guys own? The way I did it was to get the wife a new small SUV, as she's the one who needs the room with the baby. I say new because newer vehicles are safer. As for my car, I'm usually traveling alone to work, so I just needed to have the capability to put the baby in on occasion.

Of course my situation might be different...my wife does not need to work so we don't need to have intricate pick up schedules for day care.

Wife has the Celica. I'm commuting 100+ miles per day and taking my son with me 4 days a week.

Both of us work because we live in California. Home of the highest sales tax and high cost of living lol.

Fixed the Window!!! I'll post up a fix soon.

Good luck with the sale. Buying a practical car you can pay cash for makes a lot of sense right now.

I considered a Sedan, but it would throw my budget off. I only paid $22k out the door for my coupe, so my payments are "reasonable". Buying a $27k car out the door and adding 2 more years to my loan term isn't really a great idea.

Did you forget that I have your address, Rich?

No FURDS.

I think I'd do a TDI VW first and then start stealing restaurant grease and turning it into biodiesel.
