New pistons, cams, valvetrain, possibly a new crank, slightly overbored. Take the displacement up to ~2.8~3.0L. Lower the compression to ~8.5~9.5. Put either two small or one large turbo producing more then 20PSI. That'd put you over the $10k mark I set.

ABout how much HP would that give you? THe stock KA puts out ~160hp, right? I'd estimate that'd be around 300~400hp.

Now how much does the 240 weigh? I heard it was fairly heavy for its size, correct? If so then you see that you basically spent $10k plus to get just a little bit more HP then a camaro has stock. I just don't see then point.

Um, cost = $$$$$$$$$.

Oh yeah, add a new/rebuilt transmission to the things you'd have to do to handle a 400hp KA-T.

Our trannies are fine PMQ. Read up before you start bringing up stuff like that. yea it's abotu 10k for a relible 400rwhp ka. Built engine 4k,Aem ems 1800, then 4200 to trubo your car and misc parts like starter alternator battery relocation brakes etc. But your car will be perfect.

So you're paying $10k fro 400hp when you could pay $10k for 500~600hp?

I just don't see the point

You've got me lost pmq....the 400rwhp mark you have to major upgrade in tuning which will allow you to go up to 600rwhp. If you got a built motor it can handle the power just depends on how much you want out of it.After 350rwhp I wouldn't feel safe with naythign less than the AEM.Because your motor will have to have been built with at least new pistons and I wouldn't want to watch my engine blow. My engine build on my VG is probably going to cost 5k minimum probably closer to 7k then I got to get everythign for it.What engine are you saying to get 500-600 out of?I got my KA turboed because it's my daily driver and I wanted to do it.I'm superchargin my vert because I like being different. I'm dumping my money into a VG because it will be my race car.

he's saying we're all wasting our time here. the same money we spend on our sport compacts could be put to better use on a v8. and while i dont agree with him, i can see where hes coming from.

btw pmq, you dont need half the **** you mentioned. as far as the block, pistons is all you need for 400hp, rods maybe for peace of mind. and a $700 precision turbo is good past 600hp. naturally, easier said than done, but i think 400hp is attainable with half that budget.

Ah, I didn't realize that the bottom end was strong enough. I just through out some bada$$ mods. Who wouldn't want a 2.8~3.0 KA-T No replacement for displacement.

Also, you should still swap out the cams, possibly rework the heads, replace the valve springs(don't want them wearing out)

You can get 375hp without touching the block or head. Also because when I smoke a v8 I can be like "Hey!You know you just got smoked by half your engine right?"

So you're saying that on pump gas you can get 400HP with no more then an ECU, FMU, and a blower/turbo? Of course don't forget standard intake and exhaust. If so then more power to you.

For future reference, 400whp doesn't requrie you to upgrade the valvetrain, raise the displacement, get a new crank, or a stand-alone. Look at klattr1. He's making over 400whp on a JWT ECU tune. **** anthony was prolly making damn close to 400whp on just a SAFC.

So, uh, point being, piston swap(8.5:1), machine work, ECU tune with 600+cc injectors, Z32 MAFS, and a decently sized turbo will net you about 400whp.

240s heavy?lol

Stock transmission can hold up pretty well as long as you don't launch the hell out of it with slicks all the time. Don't think your camaros stock drivetrain is gonna hold up any better tho. I watched a stock Ford 9" rear-end with 4.56 gears pop(main caps blew out) under less than 400ft-lbs of torque. Well actually I watched three of them pop on the same car.

Potential of an engine is the measure of the potential of your mind and wallet.

Yea I could spend 1200 on a rebuild, and then 4k turbo ki with exhaust and have 400rwhp all day long. You guys aren't helping much the poll is 50/50/0.

Ah I see. I guess I was listing the mods for quite a bit more power then

Don't you have to upgrade the injectors?

I see, I didn't realize that the KA had such potential. If that's the case then why in the hell are people swapping in SRs?

Yeah, I've seen those too. They usually pick the WRONG 9".

The reason people swap in sr20 is cause they don't know better. The only thing you have to change in the engine to safely run 400rwhp is pistons, gaskets, injectors, and MAF. The manual transmission will hold that power. Slap a good turbo kit in there, exhaust, and a fms and ou could reach 400rwhp easy. If you swap out the parts yourself, it would never cost more than 6k.(1k for pistons, rings, metal head gasket, arp studs;1,200k for fms, 550 injectors, z32 MAF, and SAFC; which leaves $3,800 for a turbo kit) Everything else in the car will hold that power. The rods will start to give at about 520 hp, as Ivan has proved, so running at 400 rwhp is not even at 100%, which means the car would run for a long time. And I cant think of anyone that think 2660 lbs is too heavy, especially for the 240

anything above 2500 lbs is heavy, but 2660 isnt bad for a 240. s14 is around 2750 stock. As others have said, if you look for deals and know what you're doing you can piece together the makings of a 400 hp setup for around $5k. That assumes that you do the assembly on the engine and don't have $1500 in machine work done. Once you start buying everything new and going for only the best, costs start to skyrocket, obviously. I think one major reason for building a 400 hp 240 rather than a stang or camaro is for the handling advantage. I want to have a track car eventually, and I'll feel much better knowing that I have a multilink rear suspension, stiff chassis, tons of parts support, etc. A 3000+ lb car with solid rear axle would be a discouraging track project.

ANy estimates on what the KA would be able to make, in terms of HP/TQ when overbored and stroked to ~2.8~3.0? Possibly increase the compression ration to ~11.0~11.5 and keep it NA? Cam swap. HEad work, etc..

ANy estimates on what the KA is capable of in NA form?

Stupid power, you will need a built VG to touch that power level.

Even then a 700whp S-anything would have horrible driveability.

Hell at 250whp you can nuke stock size tires through most of 2nd

Stick to something you can actually USE and you will be appreciative of it.

You can't stroke it to 2.8-3.0

You can probably make 200 hp n/a and the motor would idle like an ADD-riddled adolescent.

There isn't enough deck height or bore spacing to push a KA past about 2.6L

Plus raising the weight of the KA internals is not a good start if you want absolute power, if you look at any of the large 4-cyls. they are mostly bore (ie. 944S2)

I wouldn't bother with a N/a KA to be honest. If you want an N/a monster build an SR20VE engine and make about 200whp with bolt-ons.

If you read my other threads I'm building a VG engine.Getting a full swap and a motor to build. It won't be all the bad driveability. But it's meant for straight line not curves...

WHy not build a KA-T beast if it's not too hard? Obviously it's just as capable as the VG. WOuldn't it be cheaper?

Not for my goals.Ivan has got 638rwhp so far. That extra .6 liters and 2 cylinders help. Also it wa smy original idea, so goign back to it.Building it up it will cost more in the long run due to extra parts and piping and mounts etc.But It's what I want to do.

I guess, if it's what you want to do then do it.

About how much will it cost?

Hey, don't you have a few different 240s? Do any of them have a KA-t in them?
