Need to focus on the MX73. The list of stuff I still want to do to this stupid bike is Looooooong. Who else has one? Post pics.

I need to chop the front forks to get the front lower (reverse rake sucks), rear 8" fatty, takeyari, gas tank cover, single Q45 gatling headlight, change tail light, etc etc etc.

For the time being though, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This is the lowest rear shock on the market for the Ruckus, but it's stiff enough that I don't scrape. I rode 20 miles into work on it today, comfy/cozy aside from being cold as f**k.

Navi is much more precise than the factory speedo, I'm very pleased with that part.

Click for a few more.

That's cool, been thinking about getting one for a while now. How do you know how fast you're going, or any other gauge related source of info?

Oh and is that a Saki bottle in the bottle holder there?

I use the GPS as my speedometer/trip computer/etc.

Yeah, it's a Soju bottle (Jinro). I just put it in there for fun for the pictures.

Nice!

I really want a Ruckus but I'm sooo broke. Hopefully sometime sooner or later I'll scrape together enough money to buy one; and if I do, I hope it'll look half as clean as yours.

Click original image for a few more. I have even more, I'll post them tomorrow.

Ride home from work was fun, good weather. It'll be raining the rest of the week, so I wanted to get it in today.

If anyone has a scoot of any type in DC, I'm organizing a meet on 6/19.

EDIT: Cherry Soju sounds nasty, I just drink regular Jinro 24.

That is a very nice scooter, Hashiriya. I used to have a 1980 Sachs pedal start, exactly like this one:
Image
Very reliable and could lean pretty far around tight corners, for a moped at least. Mine also had an orange milk crate zip-tied to the luggage rack and a mini personalized license plate on the back of that.

Microballin'!

I'd love a maintenance-free electric scooter for trips to school, though a motorized one like the Ruckus might be better if I transfer to a larger university in the city. 20 miles to work? What kinds of roads do you take?

Ruckus is close to maintenance-free. I've just done oil changes, spark plugs, and one coolant flush. Once in awhile you need to change roller weights and drive belt, which takes like twenty minutes. I highly recommend you get one. All the roads I go on are 50mph speed limit or lower, but some are big 3-lane affairs. In rush hour, they're all too packed with cars for me to be getting passed at high speed though. Usually everyone else is standing still and I'm lane splitting or on the shoulder passing everyone.

Riding downtown is killer, I can hop on the sidewalk, go through alleys, etc. I cover distance in DC at pretty outrageous speed compared to how long it would take to get around in a car or even a regular motorcycle. The Ruckus can just go places other vehicles really can't.

LOL, not quite, but we had like 40 bikes tearing through DC for the meet last year. Here are some shots:

It's lame and stock right now. I'm checking into my coilover options, and trying to find decent wheels on Club4AG. Then it's 5spd swap time (I already have all the parts)

If I lived in a bigger city environment, I'd totally rock one. I want an old small motorcycle.

Huh?

Back when they were still importing them (Honda skipped the 2010 model year, creating scarcity and temporarily higher pricing), They were about $2k. All 50cc scooters from major manufacturers are about $2k (Honda Met, Yamaha Vino, Yamaha C3, etc).

Unless you're comparing to Chinese scoots, which are almost all utter crap and totally not comparable. Half of the parts aren't even properly interchangeable, if you can even GET replacement parts. Not to mention a total lack of aftermarket.

MellowS13: That bike was for sale for $5k or so on Fatlace Forums awhile back.

$800-$1200 usually. I'd just buy a used Ruckus for $1000-1500, or a used something-else-decent.

At $1k, a Ruckus will never depreciate any more. When you're done, you just get your money back. You spend nothing, you just tie up funds for awhile. AND you won't pull your hair out as your bike falls apart, it'll be 100% smooth enjoyable riding.

A well-cared for used Honda or Yamaha is 500% better than a new Chinese bike, I promise.

Oh, good point. I just looked at the Ruckus and didn't compare it. That just seems like alot for what you're getting.

What not step up to a slightly used 250 then?

Like most things Hash does to things with wheels, I just don't understand the things some people do to Rukuseseseseses (Rukui?)

I'd love to have one and set it up for proper urban riding, though. Punched and stroked, longer travel suspension, disk brakes and larger wheels to get some lean (and better choices in tires).

Wait, I just built a supermoto. Brb!

I ride a couple hundred miles a week, much of it in downtown DC. My bike *is* set up for "proper urban riding". The problem isn't the lack of travel, it's that the stock ruckus suspension is meant for a 120lb Japanese rider. I'm only about 165lbs, but I still bottomed out the stock shock all the time. My lower/stiffer setup is MUCH more livable in the city, over bumps, potholes, etc.

The stock brakes are more than sufficient, disc brakes are just for bling. As for leaning, I can scrape the center stand on either side when I lean already. Storking stock Ruckus engine isn't worth the money, either swap outright or just tweak the stocker.

Oh, and the benefit of owning a 50cc over a 250 or something bigger, at least in MD/DC/VA, is that a 50cc requires no motorcycle license and no registration. Thus, I can park it anywhere, like on the sidewalk locked to a light pole, tree, or bike rack. This is kind of the whole point. If I had a plate, I'd have to find a real parking space, and DC tends to be fresh out of those, as are most large cities.
