OP, to answer your question, engine swaps do not make you a ricer or your car "ricey".crazspence wrote:so i posted this a few mins back on 3zc and just wanted to repost here since there's a wider variety of enthusiasts. for obvious reasons, people will agree with me on my views regarding the 300zx on that forum. i just wanted to post it here to get other opinions as well. oh and please, no flaming.
first off, i would like to say that this isnt a rant but rather a question that I seriously do not understand.
so today at Greddy Fest 2, I got called out for being a ricer when I stated my desired build/swap for a Z32 came up. I said that I would rather put a Turbo'd/TT VK56DE in a 300zx as opposed to a LS9 (ok seriously? if loved riding GM's nuts id just get a zr1 then assuming i could afford it. i own a 300zx for a reason.) i asked why it was ricer of me for wanting a SUV/Truck motor in the Z (even if there is a race variant version of the vk56) and the only response I got was that my purist thinking was ricer. ok call me a purist, but calling me ricer was a bit extreme. i mean i wouldnt mind other JDM motors in the Z but for me, a domestic motor in the 300zx is not an option.
my friends said that the LS9 was more cost efficient and said that the cost of parts for a build like that could be as low as $5k using GM suv blocks with vette heads. i mean, i have no doubt that the LS series motor is the best of what GM has to offer and that it does perform. On the otherhand, nissans VK series has also proven its own worth. Maybe the VK series might be more expensive to build but for the purpose of staying nissan powered, i dont mind spending a bit more. so my question to forum members here is that, "is my way of thinking considered ricer?"
i would like to hear opinions from both sides. i think that will help me understand the view of both sides since it wasnt clearly explained to me why my thoughts were considered ricer. i know that there are members here that are strictly performance oriented and have the thinking "if it fits, its going in." and others are will never let the Z see a motor besides the VG itself.

Why in blue blazes are you so concerned if someone calls you a ricer? doing that swap will make you anything but a ricer. The term ricer is defined as anyone who thinks their stock car (if it came from the factory slow) is fast even though it has no proof of any mods that would make it faster. Now take a time out spencer. when you calm down, there'll be milk and cookies in the other corner of the room.

In the name of baby jesus, why do you care so much? The term "ricer" DID originate from people making fun of japanese car tuners (rice=asian, get it?). By now its just used to describe the idiots in the car enthusiast world. Hell, I could call someone in a corvette zr1 a ricer if they were dumb enough. Calm down and go work on your car.crazspence wrote:here in socal, its not something you want to be called and when someone calls you that, its pretty offending.

I'm labeling you a ricer based on this:crazspence wrote:actually, AZ89two4Tsx labeled me as a ricer soley based on the kind of car i drive.
Let's do this: You don't come in here trying to "educate" people with your extensive racing expertise, and no one will call you mean names.crazspence wrote:people these days place too much importance to oh a cars horsepower rating as opposed to everything else. slow car + driver mod will be better than average joe with fast car around the tracks.
If I hear that from someone in person, I'm laughing in their face.crazspence wrote: ive always know ricers as Radical Immature Car Enthusiasts which exist in everywhere whether its domestic or imports.

i dont know why everything thinks im ticked off or mad. but seriously, its just something i want to understand. your definition of ricer is different than that of AZ89two4Tsx's definition. ive always know ricers as Radical Immature Car Enthusiasts which exist in everywhere whether its domestic or imports. i just dont feel its fair to label all asian import car owners are ricers when there are people with neons out there doing the same thing. its too generic and labeling. and im not sure where everyone is from but everyone here seem to take the labeling of ricer fairly well. here in socal, its not something you want to be called and when someone calls you that, its pretty offending.
Honestly, I don't know why you're being called a ricer. The only thing I can think of is because you're modding an import. But seriously, who the hell cares?crazspence wrote: @bubba1: i started this thread not as a rant but i wanted to know why someone would call another person out for wanting a nissan engine in a nissan car as opposed to a chevy engine. no one has yet to take a stand on this issue yet. everyone just seem to focus on the fact that i dont like being called a ricer and tells me to get over it. i dont take things to heart and i have gotten over it but nobody here even bothered to say anything about the reason behind which i was labeled.
I don't think anyone here has taken a stand because we all consider it a non-issue and it's obviously not the definition of rice. Only a hardened purist would consider a Nissan motor as the only motor option in a Nissan. There aren't that many hardcore Nissan purists like that anyway, so the bigger question is why even care what they think? You're modding the car to suit your personal tastes.crazspence wrote:@azhitman: you must have misinterpreted my 1st post. i said i posted the same thing on 3zc. i didnt say they were the ones who called me out. people who called me out were a few guys i know from GReddy Fest.

My comment stands. The people at the event are morons, and you've let them suck the life out of you for DAYS.crazspence wrote:@azhitman: you must have misinterpreted my 1st post. i said i posted the same thing on 3zc. i didnt say they were the ones who called me out. people who called me out were a few guys i know from GReddy Fest.
