<obscene praise>

When I first went looking I had my heart set on a 6MT. The only onein the area was too expensive cuz it had the tech package. I didn't wanttech. I also do some stop and go driving and a stick wears on me whenI do that so I settled for a CVT.

Now in the beginning I felt like I "SETTLED." I always had that little wish in the backof my head that I had a manual.

BUT NOW......The CVT has really grown on me. In fact...I am sooo gladI bought one. I drove some CVT's from other manufacturers that sucked, but the Nissan CVT is really cool. For people who are considering a CVT vs. Manual....if you have to have a manual get one...but you will not be dissapointed with a CVT.

The thing I like best is when I'm cruising at about 25 - 30 and I need togun it. It's like pushing the throttle on a Jet Fighter. It just picks you upand shoots you forward. It's sooo smooth. It is an absolute rush in the 3.5.

I thought I'd regret the choice, but I just had to get used to the CVT.I wouldn't trade it.

come on Blake, why you gotta rain on the homie's parade... not all of us actually work on jet fighters

no but seriously, you know what he's talking about.. sometimes, from a dig, the acceleration is good, sometimes, if the tires slip, it sucks, but from a roll at 20 mph... the 3.5 can haul *** (for a 230 whp car that is)... and the flawless continued acceleration of the 3.5 CVT is really nice... I first test drove a 2.5, and floored it on the highway (dealer was not happy but phuck him, I did it any way)... it was cool... a few weeks later, at another dealership, I tested the 3.5, and was like dear god, this is nice (I used to drive a 90 whp 1.6L, 4 banger NIssan, so yeah, this kind of acceleration was nice for me)... needless to say, i bought the 3.5 CVT and the rest is...

ya CVT is pretty cool. i like when it just sits at redline while you're accelerating.... and then you look at your speedometer and your like **** i'm already doing 100 lol i was able to beat my friends SRT-4 (until just now when he did a bunch of stuff to it) and my brothers 01 GT Mustang (auto) but the thing is, with the 3.5se CVT it's just so smooth. it has the power of other cars but it just drives so smooth

Ok....maybe not "just" like a jet fighter.....lolI do love the feeling of just being carried forward, instead ofbeing jolted forward. It's not 0-100 in 2 secs....but it's stillquite a rush.

Hate to play devil's advocate but...

I test drove both the 3.5 cvt and the 6 speed, I do have to admit nissan did a good job on the cvt very smooth, but there is nothing like pounding though a six speed transmission in the twisties and on the highway. Something about that feeling you get when right between shifts, kicking you back in your seat; especially in the the 3.5. The only time I wish I had a cvt is in traffic, and I live here in the bay area and come 5 o'clock it can be hell, and also a calf work out from hell. The only thing is it seems like nissan is producing mainly cvts, so it is hard to get your hands on a 6 speed. Why i ordered mine directly from the factory...6speed 3.5 dark slate, with premium package. Just my 2 pesos.

I hate the feeling of gear shifting in transmissions, whether manual or automatic... must be a driving enthusiast thing, but iregardles, its not very luxurious at all... I don't think people get manuals for a luxury type driviing experience, you guys get it for the transmission jerk, I've always tried to stay away from it... now with my CVT, Ican

I haft to say I love the 6speed on an open road. But I live in california and half my driving experience is spent in traffic, so I opted for the cvt and love it. Nothing like 2 hours of stop and go traffic on the 405 to make you really appreciate an automatic.

Don't tell that to any new corvette or porsche owners, won't they be mad that they just bought a brand new car with a 6 speed manual transmission and found out that it was stoneage technology. Should of asked for the CVT version zo6 instead.

Sorry I had too, again the cvt has its perks but from a automotive enthusiasts stand point, nothing beats a 6 speed.

Let me answer for everyone: it depends.

I sit in traffic every morning so CVT auto ftw.

Heading home, auto until I reach the highway and then its manual CVT mode for me!

I also tend to use manual CVT mode to downshift up to stop lights and what not instead of braking too much.

I know that sounds odd, but I tend to mix the auto and manual up every single time I drive and I absolutely LOVE it.

Sucks to not have CVT!!!!!! We've got manual and auto!

this thread continues to be reborn every so often as a means for the cvt guys to make each other feel that the cvt is as sporty as the 6mt. not to bust anyones bubble, but it's just not. plain and simple.

people excuse themselves with their drives in traffic and how much of a hassle it is to have a mt. That's BS! You guys wouldn't even be talking about it if deep down (although you'll never admit) you wish you had the 6mt. It is more sporty, more fun, and faster. If you were to race on a road course and moderately knew how to drive you would easily roast the cvt, because of faster acceleration and downshifting in corners and having the ablility to launch out of corners at peak hp. it really wouldn't even be a fair race. I understand why some decided on the cvt, but for the ones that play around with the cvt manual mode you must have went cvt because the dealership was fresh out of 6mts.

so true....i wish i can own another manual again.

IMO, coupes and sport cars should be completely MANUAL period. You buy a coupe or a sport car for look and speed, then you need to have manual to go along with it. I will never buy a coupe or sport car that is auto.

I'd have to disagree with you on this one Warner... I have never owned a manual and have never wanted a manual... I was excited when my delaer finally got a CVT in stock like I wanted, because the only ones they had that fit what I was looking for were manuals.

I agree with you that the manual is for enthusiasts, and after playing around with the manual mode a little bit, I find that at times, it can be fun...but in no means would I like to be forced to use the manual all the time... and NOBODY in southern california likes stop and go traffic and I feel for all the manual drivers here that have to deal with it.

I think some guys MAY be fibbing by stating the traffic as the reason that they got the CVT vs the manual, but I definately don't think all folks that got the CVT feel that way. For some of us, it really isn't a cop out, or an excuse... some of us really just do not like manuals!

There doesn't have to be a right or wrong here guys... neither side is right or better or has more fun than the other just because they got one version or the other...

this topic began by talking about how smooth the acceleration is with the CVT, which in that regard, is superior to any automatic transmission, and definately superior to the manual transmission in the A/C (I'm talking about the smoothness), and its the manual folks that got on here and began to talk about sportiness, and cornering, and downshifting, and everything OTHER than the smooth acceleration!

i wanted a manual 3.5se but all they had in stock was my 3.5se CVT and they SAID they wouldn't get any in for a while (a*s holes lied to me, had a manual 3.5se in stock next week). but i didn't have the opportunity to wait. my dad was in a good mood and was going to buy me a car cash so it was a take what you can get sort of thing lol but CVT isn't bad, it's better then a regular auto.

You are right, I wish I had a 6spd but they where fresh out. 6spd's are alot more fun, but it is also nice just to cruise and not haft to worry about anything but avoiding all the crazy california drivers. And the cvt does make my life alot easier when it comes to traffic. And I spend alot of time in traffic.

I have to agree buddy. Robert can attest, that whenever I put my car in drive, I flip it right over to manual mode. Robert asked me one day, "You drive in manual mode everywhere you go? Why didn't you just get a 6 speed?" My answer was "If I could have found one, I would have bought the 6 speed." I'm a driving enthusiast, I like manuals more than autos, but as autos go, the CVT is pretty fun. I'm not gonna lie, I feel a sense of "F1" racing when the car if shifting through at a really fast pace. I did settle for the CVT, however, I do enjoy it

To be honest, I love driving manual so that's why I got one. I don't know that I'll ever go back to an auto trans. That being said, I work with someone who has a 3.5SE sedan with the CVT, and for an auto transmission that thing rocks. I know it's all personal preference, but if I had to choose between a traditional auto and the CVT, I'd go CVT every time (regardless of what performance numbers or physics arguments say about which is better). The feel of the CVT is freakin' sweet.

Oh yeah, that guy I work with used to have a manual trans, and he sometimes wishes he still did. It's just way too much fun slamming through the gearbox. Unfortunately, the cops don't like it when I do that.

The traffic thing is real guys. My last manual almost took my left leg off.It sucked big time.

But if you don't have traffic to deal with I still gotta love the CVT.I understand and like the feel of moving through the gears withthe stick, It is very fun!!! I get it.

But the CVT is it's own thingand has it's own appeal that I find quite addicting. It wasn't immediatethough....it really grows on you over time.
