Everyone has to be on the same page as far as what is right, wrong, and what warrants punishment. I raised my daughter to know that whenever i said something, I meant what I said. I never had to threaten her with punishment, time outs, nothing like that. There was just a certain way of doing things and there was no discussion. She's 13. She and i have been on our own for about 3 years now. I told her that there was just the two of us now and if we wanted something done, we had to do it ourselves. She knows how to do a lot of things most thirteen year olds don't. I want her to be able to take care of herself and not be dependent on someone else to take care of her. The prospect of having kids may seem scary, but i can honestly say, there is no greater love in this world than the love you have for your child. Go for it!
So where does the hokus pokus come into play?
Seriously though, its funny that you gave that exact advice, as I blame the same lack of that parenting style for many of the problems we have today. Go check out the DTV thread in general, we were having a decent discusion, and as you can see I agree with you 100%.
Having kids doesn't scare me. Me having kids should scare everyone else, but that is neither here nor there. I love kids, which I can credit partially to the fact that kids love me. I want more than anything else to pass on what I know and what I love (cars). To me a child is just the next great project, someone to shape, tune, and build into someone worth knowing.

Since we're on the topic of kids- eff that. You've gotta be one hell of a woman (yes, woman) to convince me to have offspring- especially if they're not my own (I'd rather adopt a kid who NEEDS it rather than introducing more life to this overwhelmed planet). I'm This [-] close to jerking off in a few test tube bottles, storing them at some cryogenic bank (and paying a yearly fee in the slight chance a chick can convince me to have a kid) and then snipping my tubes. This world's bad enough and its only getting worse. I'm not raising a kid in this s***.
This thought has crossed my mind, but Im a doer. If I just sit back, Im doing nothing to change the rapidly degrading culture of this world. By choosing to effectively teach a child whats right and wrong, I can theoretically make a difference in the way things are to become.
