hooray for crappy nights. got home at 430 and immediately went to taking apart the tenants' furnace because it wasn't working for whatever reason. decided some gunk made it though the lines and gummed it all up. i clean everything, replace all the filters (of course i had heating oil spill all over, god wouldn't have it any other way) and begin the bleeding process. the module thingy locks me out after too many resets. call eveyone, no one knows how to unlock it. i finally got frustated enough to call a service guy. he calls me back and tells me what to do over the phone.

i get back to bleeding it and fire it up. it starts but it's pissing smoke everywhere. the exact vision in my mind was the scene from "a christmas story" when the lamp breaks and the dad exits the basement followed by a cloud of black smoke. so there's excess oil in the furnace that needs to be burned off, hence the smoke. this is normal, and usually takes about 20 minutes of cycling on and off to clear it up. but this isn't a normal pocedure, i'm involved so everything must go terribly wrong.

i'm up until 11 trying to clear this smoke out. i was running aound pulling batteries from all the smoke detectors when they went off. my heat is off and all the doors and windows wide open trying to get the smoke out. i get into a heated argument with my old man on the phone which ended in him hanging up on me. i haven't eaten since breakfast. the smoke is making me dizzy and nauseus. i finally get fed up and put another call to the service guy on call, he decides he doesn't want to do any service calls, so he never calls back. it's now time to go to work, my house reeks of diesel fuel, my fingenails are black, i'm still nauseus, little sleep, and i would like to kill something.

thanks everyone. i didn't even amke it past my boss's office until i got more great news. we bid a job that took me about a month to figure, and that was including taking the drawings home over x-mas and new years break. the job was canceled and given to a different contractor. this new contractor asked us to provide them with prices for the packages we bid and an additional one. this time, i only get a week. who did i s*** on in my last life?

the bosses are talking about lay-offs at the end of this first quarter. i'm doing whatever i can to keep a feeling of job security. the big guy already has me taking care of ordering material for a few jobs, so i've been feeling pretty good about not getting a pink slip.

i'd come earlier, but i'm on hourly wages and not salary, so they would have to pay me for the time. they're cutting back enough as it is so i can imagine they would stop opening the door for me until it was closer to 7

come in and purposly tell them they do not need to pay you that extra 30 min, you just wanna get ready for the day. When the cutbacks are over they will already see you there that early so they will not think twice when you start clocking in at 630 cause they will prob think that is the time you are suspossed to be there.

no you don't, you send like one reply text and forget that your phone exists lol. it's k though, i ignore my phone half the time. i miss beepers. i get really annoyed always being attached to the world.
