So I'm guessing the coil overs will be going on the TT along with other goodies originally planned for the 2+2 shag wagon?

A pair of them? So you can wire to 1/4/8 ohms? Budget?

Subs generally don't fry amps (unless they were wired to deliver an impedance too low for the amp). Maybe the gain was jacked and you were actually overdriving the amp? But then I would think the subs would blow first.

I blew a midrange driver before and drove around for a few months without ever turning the radio on. It made me unhappy. But then I upgraded and was happier with the setup than before I blew the speaker.

Well, they're individual speaker enclosures, so I don't think I can go 8 ohm without some cutting into the box. Budget is decent but for a good price. I just want subs. I'm not gonna be going to any bass competitions or anything. I'm just in it for the quality, and my 1st set of subs happened to be 12's.

Basically I just want an amp with an RMS of ~800W so I'm not gonna be underpowering my subs.

Also, I didn't have the gain jacked, but I did have the "level" jacked. The reason it didn't blow the subs is because the subs are about 1500W peak power combined, 400W RMS.

Idk, this thing is way too stock for me to start tinkering with right away. I'll have to weigh my options.

Even in individual enclosures you can still wire to any of those options. It's just a slight bit harder if the enclosures are completely across the trunk. And, running at 8 ohms would be dumb anyway.

I see. You probably were driving the amp to clipping. Most likely how it fried.
Ace2cool wrote:Basically I just want an amp with an RMS of ~800W so I'm not gonna be underpowering my subs.
Decent budget that fits those needs. I can come up with at least one recommendation off the top of my head. You could look at the little brother of my sub amp. I feel like I push this brand a lot, but they are freaking work horses. I've got mine running below one ohm (which shouldn't be stable) and have had it that way for over a year and half with no problems. The link is actually the e-tailer I bought from (authorized) and they were excellent as well.

With that, you'd have to wire to one-ohm. Then you'd have to set the gains correctly. But it should work perfectly and at an excellent price if you ask me. It's not cheap, but I doubt you'd find much under that cost that would perform anywhere near as well. If that's too steep, let me know and I'll dig a little deeper.

The only 5spd Z32s I've found out here are either riced out beyond belief or abused in the worst kind of way.

It's a little steep, but I'd probably be able to manage it. Since @ 1 ohm, it's 1000W RMS, I'd have to turn it down to accomodate my subs and not blow my voice coils, correct?

haha nice.... Same here, the tt 5spds around where I live were all abused to s*** or had "graphics" similar to that of Unicorn Z... Hey mine is auto, nothing wrong with that ....I'll be swapping in a fresh JDM transmission with my built motor way later in the year. The only exterior mods I'll have will be tt wheels and a drop for a lonnng time. Unless Simmode finds something I can't resist buying

Yes, it is.

Also, N00bert needs a nickname. A vile and gay and extremely embarrassing/owned name, that he must wear for 1 week. He is to be entertaining, and must answer to it, at all times.

That amp would last a while, but I'll look for some cheaper options. I was thinking Hifonics might work (that's the brand), but it seems the amp I thought was more of a budget amp is about the same price.

I actually knew about the whole relationship between current and voltage, oddly enough. I just can't apply it to audio. My brain won't let me. The way the Navy teaches electronics is teh suck. That's an awesome writeup, though!
