(kinda ;) )

Hey guys,

I finally got around to swapping this weekend!!!

We started saturday morning at about 7am and finished the physical swap at 11pm...I finished wiring and intercooler piping today and went for a test drive this afternoon!!!:D

It is sweeeet!!!

Now to the bad news :( I'm not getting any spark to the second cylinder...I tried replacing the coil pack, the spark plug, the ignitor (I'll try the ECU tomorrow morning) and we used an ammeter to test the wires to the ignitor and they all work...

So what else can I check??? Please help I wanna go push on this thing, but it kinda sputters on 3 cylinders! It feels like it wants to take off after 3k, but I'm afraid of the damage I might do running on only 3 cylinders:D

Anyways, I'll be calling some of the locals here around town to see what they have to say, I just thought some of you might offer some advice!

Oh and I'll post pics later...My friend with the digital camera was outta town, so I had to use my mom's regular camera and I'll have to get them developed :(

Oh well at least its in!!!:D

Later,Sean

tomorrow...but I know it has no spark...if I unplug the wire from the coil it makes no difference...where-as if I unplug the 1st cylinder it makes it run even rougher!

I was working on a buddies CA and did that exact same test, it did the same thing yours did. His #2 injector plug was loose, check that.

Oooh good idea! didn't even think of that!

And thanks again Mike! That harness and all the sensors worked like a charm man! fired up first try no problems, didn't even have to work with anything at all! :D

nah, it was a good first swap...my dad and I did basically all of the swap. Estevan rewired the harness and he and Mike came over to finish putting the CA in, but I pulled the KA and got most of the CA done all by ourselves. (and the most technical thing we'd ever done on the 240 was change the spark plugs...lol)

so how hard was it to wire up the dash connections? you used the KA's starter and alternator hookups? I'm trying to figure out how much of the Skyline's engine wiring I need.

dash wiring is simple, unless your my size sittin up side down under the dash repinning the 91 connector in the car cause you threw out the the 89-90 connector that would connect the harness to the car whoops .. live and learn!

and my turbo just crapped out on me :( I have the worst luck...

i'm pretty sure the grinding noise that comes from my tubo when the car dies (still having idle problems...see other post about injectors) but anyways it continues spinning for awhile then makes a grinding whining noise...any ideas (it doesn't turn easily by hand anymore...the impeller catches the edge of the housing) I'm pretty sure its shot.

now i'm bummed...help!

thats my guess, a turbo is a lot of spinning and a lot of lube, make sure its getting the correct lube, this may be your problem

I'll try disconecting the oil return line to check for flow...

and its a good excuse to upgrade turbos!

about your misfire, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had a similar problem with my CA18DE in my pulsar, thought it was spark related, turned out to be craked/shattered rings. 0 and I mean 0 compression in the hole. if you have 0 compression, and you pull the spark on it, it will not make any difference what so ever., do a compression test on it. Hopefully it is wiring.

oh don't worry McAdam...its worse than the bad news you brought :( I'm pulling chunks of a bolt and a smashed spark plug out of the #2 cylinder...apparently that got sucked in the intake manifold and was crushed by the cylinder...and fragments of the bolt are what destroyed my turbo too...well off to pull the head and check for more extensive damage...oh and go cry some more :( bad bad day for my CA...

doubtful...they gave me something like a 30 day warantee, but since the cost of shipping was almost the cost of the engine, I'd be out almost $500 if I ship it back...I'm going to pull the head now...wish me luck :(

a good head shop can weld up the damage to the head. Punching the block up for a new set of forged pistons should take care of the cylinder walls. :)

well, if you need a block, go for a CA20 and beat me to the CA20DET!! that sucks *** man, it shouldnt be too hard to repair tho, nothing a 1mm overbore couldn't cure. as far as teh head, hey, if they can fix cracks and re shape combustion chambers, I am sure they can fix what ever is wrong with yours, assuming there is any damage at all.

cheer up, at least there isnt a rod poking thru your block!!McAdam
