Hey there , i have a ka24e and i need some help because whenever i start up my motor it sounds fine but when i start to drive it, it would sound fine too. But when i stop and just sit there, i would hear this knocking noise but when i give it gas it would stop the noise. The noise is coming from the inside of the valve cover and i know my piston and rods are fine, but i have no idea what it is so i thought since almost everyone here used to own or had some experiences with one, i was hoping you guys or gals can help me. One more thing, the car can still drive like normal and should i just park the car until i get it fix or is it ok to keep on driving it. Any help would be great

Try searching for problems related to the timing chain, it is a very common issue with the KA, though I'm not sure if the Es are effected like the DEs. Ive never owned an E so I will let someone else chime in with better advice. You could try searching, Im sure you will find something.

If it isn't a timing chain guard issue, it might be a bad lifter. My old Probe used to do the same thing.

i would pull the valve cover off, just to be sure its not the cam chain. u should no right away. i did only who i bought the car from ran it until it jumped time and wouldnt run. i was lucky thought it stoped running before it jumped time enough to bend a valve

well yesterday i went to this shop that have been open for over 40 years and the owner, which is still alive, he told me to just use this oil called Marvel Mystery. He told me to just substitute one quart of oil for the marvel mystery and it should make the problem go away. The reason why is because ka24e have hydraulic lifters, it needed to be bleed so he told me i should just use marvel mystery and it should clean out the lifters and make everything work again. So if you anyone has ever use this then please let me know how well it work.

Btw the E is affected the same way the DE is with the timing chain. If it was your timing chain you would hear a nasty rattle on start up. I've also heard the lifters on the E (Not to sure bout the DE) are common for creating clicking or knocking noises. I'm pretty sure there's a how-to somewhere around here on how to bleed em.

And you alternator bearing...how'd your friend determine they were dry? Unless its making a nasty grinding or humming noise (easy to pin point with a stethoscope) I would leave it alone. As far as I know all, if not most alternator bearings are self contained and require you to replace the alternator. And if your not mechanically inclined, I don't suggest ripping apart the alternator yourself. Not to mention the cost of a R/R would prolly be more than just replacing the whole alternator.
