Yeah, that might not go over too well with the HOA. ;)
Yeah..oh well. Maybe indoor use then. :)
ADDirishboy wrote:That's what the grabber/pikstik/f*** is for.
Exactly! You can have Bex pick it up and then you can shoot it. Make a NICO trick shot exhibition out of it, take plenty of pics!

And never use BB's, they're too hard and will richochet, a lead pellet will deform on impact and not have much momentum after the initial impact.

Wow, that's really scary.

How long would a kid have to get to the hospital if bitten? Half an hour?

We have snakes here, mostly black rat snakes, and I like them because they kill pests and are generally chill and cool looking. Rattlesnakes are a different matter entirely, totally dangerous.

I stayed away from gamo since the whole plastic trigger ordeal. But that's a sweet price for that gun. replacement trigger for the new gamos are already in final stages.

I still say try getting a .22 that shots around 500fps. Like it was said here before lead deforms and doesn't ricochet AS MUCH as bb's. You would just really need to plot your angle of fire. If that's still to just power, there way to detune the spring even more to get the speeds you're looking for. Also remember not all rounds fire the same to just use the heavy ones, usually more accurate and harder hitting.

I'd happily take a rattler over my local snake, the Habu. At least Rattlers have that American spirit of fair play and might give you a buzz to let you know. Habus are straight ninja, big as a mofo, can strike in all 360 degrees and are known to climb trees. :ohno:

Their venom is nasty stuff.
Whereas the cobra of Southeast Asia and the black mamba of Africa inject nerve poison, the habu injects strongly hemorrhagenic venom. It is called hemorrhagenic because it causes bleeding by destroying the blood vessels. The venom causes a burning pain and swelling, and it can be fatal.

Rattlesnakes, including the Western Diamondback/Mohave in the picture, aren't that venomous. The Eastern's (largest, potentially most toxic) venom's effectiveness is measured in hours, and without an antivenom the survival rate is a little over 60%.Though for a child, I'm not quite sure. Not a game I'd want to play!

Greg, get a .357 and apply liberally:

The pellets are small enough that in most situations they won't do damage to the surrounding area.

Also, great reason to buy a badass revolver.

Made by Koreans. And it isn't much quieter than a .357. Won't blow your eardrums out, but it does have a healthy crack to it. Oh and I WANT ONE. They hunt wild boars with those things.

-edit...damn went google crazy after I posted that. Not only boars, but some crazy f*** go big-game hunting...bears, buffalo, you name it.

They make em all the way up to 20mm, and I'm sure some dude is trying to retrofit a 25mm cannon to fire big honking pellets with air.

Lots of rattlesnakes in the Sacramento area, especially the more rural areas. The bite is not going to kill you if you get to a hospital quickly but you'll be very sick for a few days and be left with a nasty scar when it's all healed up.

Nightengale? That's what they do. Not fun when they're outside your bedroom window though.

I think I have one of those in my neighbors palm tree. It's either a nightengale, or a bat, but dog gone it, I wish it will freeze to death already!

I'm no tree hugging PETA nut, but why kill them? After all, we did steal their habitat. (OK that sounded like a tree hugging PETA nut)

I would pick it up with my bare hands and release it somewhere. Respect things that can kill you and maybe they won't kill you in return. That is human nature for you... if you don't like it, kill it.

Why are the lights turned off and if he needs to work with them off and use a flashlight, why isn't he working with a partner? Is it bad that I would have found it hilarious if the guy turned around with the lid and the snakes were outta the bucket and it wasn't overturned?

It'll just go bother someone else if you drop it somewhere. Rather have it dead than a threat to anyone.

Also, AZ has major issues with wild animals. AZ Game and Fish actually tells you to shoot any coyote you see as long as your in a location where it's legal to discharge a firearm.

Uh, actually, they are. Read and learn... Neighbor is a herpetologist (and our Animal Control Officer).

Mohave Rattlesnake (Crotalus scutulatus) - Up to 50" long - Widely considered most toxic rattlesnake in U.S. - Easily confused with Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake

Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) - Up to 66" long - Largest rattlesnake in the West - Responsible for more bites and deaths to humans than any other rattlesnake species in U.S.

The Eastern Rattler isn't the most venomous, but it's the largest. The two are not correlated.

According to Arizona Poison Centers, less than 1% of rattlesnake bites result in human deaths. However, kids and the elderly are most at risk.

Enjoy!

I took out a rabid one (about 45 lbs), but I wasn't in a location where it's legal to discharge a firearm.

He ate the front bumper of an intentionally-misguided Crown Vic Interceptor at 50 mph. :)

(STILL demolished the bumper and sent me off-course into the desert.... :ohno: )

Rarely had problems with snakes when I lived in the barrio, mainly just scorpions. When I moved to PV, that was when I discovered my first rattler while going into the kitchen for some breakfast. Also had a couple gila monsters take up residence in the back yard for a while.
