LOL @ your avatar. I came into this thread with a tear in my eye. I thought they were going to impound and crush it. Nice work. You have to teach me this smog exemption when I move back to California.

turtle600rr, I assume you are with those "propane" boys who claim smog exempt? I call BS without absolute proof.

He's more than likely full of s**t. There are a group of guys claiming that they can legalize your car, with no need for carb/emissions testing. It sounds bogus, and they can not/have not shown proof that it is not B.S. I wouldn't trust that crap, untill I see proof with my own eyes.

nissancefiro, Please edit your sig as it is too big. Max size is 600x200 pixels (not just the image). You can click zerothread/203223. If you need, I'll even be willing to crop and resize, whichever you like. Let me know.

They will only be "legal" in that state, and not federally.

We all know that before Motorex there were no "Legal" skylines and aside from the first few they did legit there will be no fully federalized skylines in the states until someone mans up and does the crash testing and epa/dot bs. It may pass in your home state but try selling it out of state and see what happens. Know a guy out of Florida that got caught up for selling "legal" rhd cars out of state. $1 million later and 10 years in jail tells me that he was full of ish. Buy it for track or be careful.

LOL...funny you started this thread because I got pulled over in my 34 coming home from HIN Boston. I was doing a whopping 25mph in the center of small town, usa (in traffic), he saw me coming and thought he would f#$# up my night. Luckily, I kept my composure and answered all of his questions maturely. The RHD blew his mind though. Local Mass. cop had a field day with my car, but ended up letting me go with a written warning for a lights violation...the clear and red rear lights screwed up his world...I guess. Could have been worse, but he kept me pulled over for 30 minutes...I was dog tired after the show too.

Turtle, if your the guy that owns the black r33 and cruises around Garden Grove-Westminster-Orange alot, I've seen your ride a few times in town...pretty clean bro! As to the CHP thing, I got popped in my FD by local CHP (most likely Westminster Div. on Goldenwest) and they really didnt care about my motor because they didnt realize what a 1.3 liter motor was suppose to look like! Congrats on the smog situation!

Yall are forgetting the guy said he was getting it legal in South Carolina...you can drive just about any damn thing you want in South Carolina. We don't have emissions regulations and you'll never see any codes or any of that enforced. I have "illegal" lights, tint, exhaust and all kinds of other crap but not a cop in the state would ever care. I was born and lived in Cali growing up but now that I'm in school i came to South Carolina and nobody cares here. I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't very easy to get a skyline legally registered in SC

yeh here in missouri you can run alot of illegals.. most police dont notice and or care. our local car scene has a few illegal tints... we have no emmissions tests in certain county's, and the police dont even check for registration half the time.

RE: Being stopped with a Skyline by Police

Try this one:

I live in So. Cal.

I have never been pulled over by CHP or Local Sheriffs.

For the first few months I had my Federalized R32 , I was "tailed" by the above police officers about 3 times.

They "tailed " me for about 5 to 7 minutes. I suspect they were checking C.A.R.B and the DOT Registry.

I could see in my rear view mirror, the activity of the officers on their radios.

Never had any encounter with them ever since.

Not to say sometime it might not happen, but I found that interesting.

Everyone with a Skyline should really feel special, these are great automobiles!

"Shotgun" is right. However, if you have a MOTOREX car, it is "golden", I know I have an R32, never any problems and I live in So. Cal!

The crash testing and DOT/EPA/CARBs issues were, in fact, done by MOTOREX, but the DOT does not extend any more import licences to use MOTOREX technology as that is IP for MOTOREX and is no longer the "standard" for the DOT/EPA/CARB for the Skyline GT-R[R32-R34s].

Timing is everything.

I don't see what the big deal is. When I moved to Florida and back to AZ my 240sx had to go through a level two inspection because I changed the dash board and didn't swap vin's, so azmvd just assigned a new vin starting with "az" like a mobile home...

When the cars are imported, regardless of the state they are imported through they are assigned a federal vin. When you move to a new state, a title will be assigned based on the vederal vin. If it passes the smog test it will be ok. From what I understand, only cars that were originally sold in California are required to be "CARB" certified. That is why some new cars are sold as "CA" versions.

Skylines In California: Registration and Propane Conversions:

When you bring a car into CAL. from out of state, you must pass smog.

If it is a grey car, you go to the CARB Referee.

With a Skyline and no Motorex, you are through, no question about it.

The propane thing for Skylines:

You have a Cal plate and registration with the BNR32-yyyyyy/BNR33-yyyyyy number on the CAL Pink Slip?

I know people who have gone to CARB with that idea for Skylines;

they did not accept the idea at all; but I hope you get away with it if you are questioned.

Good luck and safe driving.

the propane thing only works on cars that are US sold. Its for like a 240 with a rowdy rb26 or something. Thats all I know,

But does anyone know what steps to take if there is another imported car, say a 180sx or something, is there rules that can be bent for this?

Thanks, but like I said Im still 100% stock under the hood. I change my mind so much on what motor would be good, that I end up buying something else completly. Leaning towards an SR right now.

who gives a crap about being federally legalized. doesn't mean he can't drive it into other states. as long as he has plates from his home state, he can drive it anywhere in the US.

for example, i drive my R34 with my Arizona plates all up and down the California coast. I do it even with my straight pipe installed. I pass cops all the time and haven't been pulled over yet.
