I can't stand the yellowish tint of standard lights, can't imagine why anyone would want them. But not everyone is like me and the rediculous HIDs that are so bright piss me off. Around here, unless its a BMW or a Lexus, it's almost always aftermarket and no one seem to know how to properly aim them or adjust the cutoff on them. I really want some and with the H4 conversion set I have there's plenty of lens to cutoff the correct beam.

OP, my roommate here in Huntsville has yellow headlights in his AE86 and has been pulled over numerous times. He has the federal code printed out and in his glovebox. It states that the legal colors for headlights are as follows:WhiteYellowSelective YellowSelective Blue

Looks to me like you are in the right. Take the ticket, go to court, plead not guilty, then tell the judge that the officers in Mobile really need to re-read the federal lighting code, as they are mistaken in what is and is not legal.

As for why yellow is superior, there is a reason the europeans made them from the factory. The brain registers movement in yellow light far better than it does in white light. This allows for faster reaction times at speed. Ever wonder why shooting glasses had a yellow tint? Do some research

As for cops being "haterz" because of HIDS, if your car did not come from the factory equipped with them then you, sir, are illegal. Grow up, kids, and read some damn books.

IIRC as long as you retofit in SAE/DOT approved HID lights then you are fine. (IE swap in an S2000 projector to replace the stock kouki projector) As far as drop in HID kits, Illegal as screw.

Don't try to bull shizzle anyone. In the LONG run it is not worth it.

Look up the law for your area. And just fix it to YOUR understanding of the law.

Keep that paper in the glove box and next time you get pulled over pull it out with everything. If they have an issue with the lights say that it was to YOUR understanding that the modifications you made were within compliance of the law. if he says its wrong just be polite and all that good stuff, Question it LATER. I think the fact you made the effort to comply with the law will show and you wont get to much unless hes had a bad day.

I had yellow headlights for a while. Had some cops turn around and follow me, but I always pulled off in front of them to avoid being pulled over for anything. Then I got pulled over on "Cruise Night" which in winnipeg is where the cops go out full force on anything on all imports. $109 ticket, faught it, won, and put some normal headlights with a very slight purple tint only from the right angle.

On cruise night (sundays) I once had a van to my left with yellow underglow, and a Chevette revving like mad and trying to jump the light on my right. Cops behind the chevette, and they sat there staring at my car not caring about the other 2 vehicles that were obviously braking the law.

You drive an import, plan accordingly.

I remember when i would cruise with my team at night. We still do when everyone is in town. You sound like you had a really big cruise with a mess load of people. That sounds like fun as long as the ricer kids did not tag along. That sounds VERY fun actually.

Every state is truely different. There's several Honda's and Subaru's around here with yellow hid's. There's a sweet 350Z carbon wide body that has them up in Indy.

Yeah it's a weekly thing in Winnipeg. Every week people cruise up and down one of the main streets in modified cars and such. I find that most of the ricer kids dont really bother to come out. The major problem seems to be domestic guys around 25-40 wanting to race everyone because they have a loud car and probably wont get pulled over. Every different group kind of goes off to their own areas by 10:30 or so. Import/JDM guys have an area further down, domestic guys have a couple of different restuarants or lounges, etc. It makes for a fun night, but cops are biased to imports, so they guys I am usually with (I always end up with a bunch of subies and Mistsus) just cruise at 40 km/h and dont get bothered, it's all good fun.
