I was crusing along on my way from work and some haters "aka cops" spoted my extremely bright yellow lights and followed me around and said i need to remove my headlights or recieve a ticket. i love them so so much and the stock ones are garbage. So looks like i gots to save for WHITE BORING hids... or if any one is selling some decent white lights for pop-ups let me know...

Don't remove ****, take it to court. I got a ticket for illegal window tints in my Mitsubishi Eclipse. I called the courts and they told me they'd dismiss it if I brought a picture showing I removed the tints. So I went to a couple of parking lots and found a white Eclipse, exactly like mine with no tints, I took a couple of pics of that car and took them to court, cased dismissed.

that happened to me in my civic i had. i fought it and won however because the only law on headlighting(that i was aware of at the time) is the light must be 22in off the road and project out to i believe 50 feet(dont quote me) the color had nothing to do with it. and i had them for over a year before a cop in my town popped me.

The stupid thing is, here in South Florida is every district has their own laws. So Miami-Dade, City of Miami, Hialeah, Miami Beach, all have different laws when it comes to stupid crap like tints, headlights ,and exhaust etc. Try checking online, just remember, just because it's a law in your town, doesn't mean that same law won't be different the next town over.

You can always go to your main Police Dept. and ask in person.

BS. I found the Alabama Code of Law immediately, and its layout is quite nice compared to other states I've looked through.

Section 32-5-240 - # Required lighting equipment and illuminating devices of vehicles.Section 32-5-241 - Additional permissible lights on vehicles.Section 32-5-242 - Requirements as to head lamps and auxiliary driving lamps.Section 32-5-252 - Approval of lighting devices; prohibited lamps and devices; regulations; lists of approved devices to be published.

And there's also FMVSS 571.108, which is a Federal statute that dictates what is and isn't allowed on the road. If a state doesn't have specific statutes governing control over headlamp design, etc, FMVSS 571.108 is what they will use.

I didn't see any restrictions on headlamp colour in Alabama's laws, however, I would contact your local district attorney's office and ask them. Refer them to the above legal sections I posted to give them a bit of a leg up in looking. If the DA can't specify to you for certainty and quote you the law on it, ask them if there's a federal statute that they follow and then conform to it.

Also, make sure that the headlights have DOT and/or SAE markings on them.

If in the end, your headlights turn out to be legal, expect to be hassled from time to time. However, carry with you the knowledge of the law and politely inform the officer of the law and that you have contacted the DA etc and confirmed that you are well within your rights. If he tickets you still, he's a d-bag, but just take the ticket, then take it to court, explain it to the judge, and sit back and watch the cop get berated for wasting the court's time.

If your headlights are out of spec, you either have to conform, or run the possibilities of receiving tickets from cops who are hard up to meet their quota of tickets for the month.

I have never read anything prohibiting colors of head lights, turn signals yes, brake lights, yes. In VA you can black out your headlights, but that is about it and you still may catch guff for it.

Also, the bring in a picture thing has backfired on a friend once, cop saw him leaving and gave him a new ticket.

I couldn't find any law supporting or refuting colored lamps in the Virginia Code of Law. It only refers that it is up to the Superintendent's discretion. So I contacted the Virginia Highway Patrol's safety division. I'll see what the VSP has to say about it.

Haha, yeah really. But it's not clear to me that he actually got a ticket, he said "remove my headlights or recieve a ticket". so did you get ticketed or warned?

Yellow headlights are soooooo 2004.

I sprayed my headlights with stainglass window tint a few years ago, and I quickly replaced them when I realized how retarded they were.

HIDs are where it's at.

Sergeant Evans from the VSP contacted me back about the issue of headlight color in Virginia.

Quote »Dear Mr. Thornton, All lights used on motor vehicles in Virginia must be submitted to and approved by the Superintendent of State Police or meet or exceed the standards and specifications of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American National Standards Institute, Incorporated or the federal Department of Transportation.http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bi...-1002h ... bi...-1005 If a light were not marked SAE, DOT, or on the approved list of equipment with the proper function code as to its designed intention, such equipment would not be permitted for operation on the highway. You may review regulations concerning headlamps at the following link http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bi...0-140 Thank you for contacting the Safety Division.
In the fifth point of inspection rejection (last link in the quote), the stipulation specifies that the lens must be clear.

Quote »5. Lens is other than clear
This is to be in compliance with Title 46.2-1165 of the Virginia Code of Law

I've got a question: do you live in France?

If not, put some normal colored headlights on your GD car. This does not mean that you should put purple or green HIDs in either.
