This weekend I drove to my wife’s aunt house in Dayton for Thanksgiving and then drove to Indiana to meet up with Wes and the guys. This was a 1500 mile trip. By the way, I used a can of BG 44k before I left. Here are the numbers.

16.98mpg That was with 35 miles of city traffic and plenty of highway traffic jams.19.53mpg18.54mpg A little lower because that was after the meet and we did a little hard driving.20.26mpg This was doing an average of 80 mph.20.86mpg This was a 70 mph average

This is great for my Q. I get about 11-12mpg in the city and about 15mpg in NJ highway traffic. I guess because of all the congestion on the road around here, I can’t keep a constant speed.

That sounds prety good. That bumper-to-bumper driving is killer. If you could leave 30 yards of space in front of you, you could save on gas and brakes.

-But then, it wouldn't be called bumper-to-bumper traffic, then.

After BG44k and a long trip, it always has helped my old Q... Still gotta do that with the new one...

Remember the 22 mpg highway spec was/is for 55-61 mph no AC/no defroster.

Those of you driving 70-80 mph obviously don't care about mpg.

That's the best way to drive in a "traffic jam". It's amazing how stupid people are. If you leave 30 Yards between you and the car infront of you, someone will cut infront of you, and then proceed to speed up, and then they slam on their brakes when they get right on the a$$ of the car infront of them. Did they think they were going to get somewhere?

Also, if people would just not drive like I described above, a lot of traffic jams could be eased. It is just that people are in too much of a hurry these days. Rush here, rush there. They never slow down to see the scenery.

And this brings me to my next point.... Please tell me if you would like to hear the end of this rant.

Anyway, that is very good gas mileage for a Q. The best I ever got was about 19MPG. And that was doing 55MPH down US41 for about 200 miles with no stoplights and light traffic.

that's not too bad at all...... best i got was about 20 mpg going down to ocean city maryland averaging around 70 mph. around town, driving the Q 2-5 times a week, i get between 11 and 15 mpg. since it's not a daily driver, i'm not complaining!!!!! will gladly give up the economy for the performance!!!!!!!jeff

why you guys get such horrible mpg in your q. My buddy has a 97 mark VIII. With the 4.6L dohc cobra motor, and he consistantly gets 25-28 mpg on highway trips. Thats pathetic that you guys cant do any better

American V8s always get better mileage, even the quad-cam 4.6 from Ford. The current 340hp Nissan VK45 gets 23mpg. Of course, it doesnt help that our Qs are older than dirt now.

Wait, What did you just say? Could it be? Are you admitting that American V8s get better gas mileage than most others?

Oh and BTW, try taking a look at the new Corvette engine. It's a Pushrod V8 putting out 400HP and it still gets "awesome" gas mileage. Who said that you couldn't have great performance and gas mileage in the same package?

How could it be that this ancient and obsolete technology is still alive and kicking the crap out of the supposed supreme Jap-Crap?

Chevy's 5.7 and 6.0 V8s are beautiful to listen to.

While Americans know how to produce massive power without making the middle east too wealthy, the Japanese have the edge on engine longetivity and consistency of construction.

Ive often wondered this, but I feel i can speak for the rest of us.. I dont care. You **never** buy a V8 car for gas mileage... A good Q will get 22mpg on highway.. Fred said that his Q would get 22+ (which i have yet to see)..

15 MPG is a good avereage for a perfect maintained city.. I would dare say that most of us drive our Qs very hard in the city, and given any other car, i bet itd be the same.... meaning if I drove the mark, id bet id get about the same mileage...

Just because we dont care about gas mileage, doesnt mean we cant expect 20+ mpg.. I got it no problem in my old Q in less than stellar shape...

well I dont believe its fred's fault the car doesnt get 22 mpg or more. You may just have different driving habits and diferent conditions yield different results.

On my recent SEMA trip, I got a solid 20 mpg going 80-85 from L.A. (sea level) up over the 4500' mountain passes to Vegas, with air on.

We don't even have any freeways with 55 mph limit's (that I'm aware of). Ours are 65 in urban areas and 75 once you leave town, so things have changed since the days of nationwide 55 laws. If these cars are truely limited to 150, then 55 seems like a crime to me. Anyhow, I consider 20 mpg good, and the 15-16 I get in L.A. traffic is acceptable to me as well.

I did a 3500 mile trip this summer in my 96 and averaged over 21 mpg, mostly at 80 mph on cruise.

Get back to me in a hear. I would bet $5 that you will have sold your Q because of the gas mileage, and because it will cost too much to fill up with Super Premium ($3.50~$7 a gallon).

A year? A few hours after election day local gas prices dropped 30 cents. They continue to fall.

Wont be selling my Q.....

AS soon as it costs me more than $5 extra to fill over other cars...

I dont have a Q45 for transportation. I have a Q45 for the thrill and enjoyment, and transportation, IMHO is secondary..

Best mileage I saw on the Q was about 25mpg when I first bought it and was driving back home. The absolute WORST I've seen is about 5mpg when I take it to the track. I continue to average around 15mpg because lately all my driving has been city. But, I knew what I was getting into after having a 87 Cougar XR7 with the 5.0 in it. I went from that to a 97 Cavalier, then a 97 Camaro, then back to the cavalier, now the Q. And I don't care that my buddy with an 01 v6 Camaro pays $25 to fill up and I pay $40, because yanno what, my Q has seen 165mph, his Camaro hasn't

Bottom line the Q drinks gas and that is just the way it is. Gas prices are high try $2.40 a gallon for 93 octane buddy here in brooklyn. I put $20 in the Q and it is a joke. On the highway though it is beautiful.

By the way, when I started this thread, my intention wasn't to complain about the gas mileage. I know you have to pay to play. I was just surprised that I was able to get that kind of MPG form my car when I get such bad numbers normally.

Detune a Q45 V8 and it should have no problem getting Ford 4.6l gas mileage. I usually get 14mpg city driving hard and on my last road trip i got 20. 20mpg over 110 canyon carving miles that me+two passengers covered in less than an hour. Thats good enough for me.

I dunno but for what they're asking you would think they could spell "carburetor" correctly. And "quiet" too (misspelled 2x!)
