Gah, I tried to search for it, but my eyes crossed. It might be from sleep deprivation, so please forgive the incredibly over-reposted question I'm asking.

ARP head studs.

Stock (Fel-Pro) headgasket.

What torque? And how many increments? I think it's 25, then loosen, then 65, then loosen, the 80?

If ya' could throw me a link, I'd be quite happy.

Thanks. Now I'm off to sleep.

my fsm says tighten all bolts to 22 ft lb, then all to 59 ft lb, and then loosen all completely. then it says to tighten all bolts 18-25 ft lbs, and then 55 to 62 ft lbs. start in the middle and criss cross your way out on either side while loosening from the outside ones in. this is how i did it with my arps and cometic headgasket. car runs perfect with no smoke at all. i final tightened mine to the highest torque spec = 62 ft lbs.

just do them in FSM tightening order....steps of 25, 40, 55, 70 (w/ moly) or 80 (w/ reg. oil) ft.lbs

Make sure to lube every part too (both sides of washers, nuts, and the threads)...

the tightening/loosening procedure mentioned above is for stock head bolts...

I'll be using the moly lube supplied by ARP. So that means 70 or 80? Keep in mind, this is for a 400whp application around 20psig boost pressure, if that matters.

Thanks again for the help. I'm glad I don't have to loosen them again. The monotony of this procedure gets me.

Using the same order as the FSM, just don't bother with the loosening step. Use the increments provided by Klattr1, with a peak torque of 70ft/lbs if using the ARP moly lube, 80ft/lbs if using motor oil.

actually i just got done reading a thread on ka-t.org where a guy was having coolant leaking problems through his headgasket down the side of his block in two spots. he went to torque them down to an even higher setting than what they were previously torqued to. he torqued them to 80 ft lbs using motor oil and stretched the stud so much causing it to break in two. also he said that a few more feel like theyre about to do the same. obviously they were over torqued and the studs couldnt take it. jgs even said to torque them to factory specs as well. just a heads up.... btw these are the stock sized 10mm studs.

That's good to know. I'll try 70ft/lbs with the moly lube and see how it feels.

The ARP web site has a section on torques. I would definitely go by the listed recommendation on the site. You can not use the factory torque specs because it is a different type of fastener. I do use the factory torque sequence.

I got the arp head stud kit. Mine were torqued to 75ftlbs. Because headgasket was leaking. He re used factory head bolts and 2 of them stretched. 70-75ftlbs will get the job done nicely.
