i was bored and had nothing better to do so i converted the stock cooling fans to dual electric. the electric fan unit came out of a chrysler sebring (dont ask me what year). i snagged this from one of the body shops i used to work at a while ago. so its been sitting around for a while. i orignally planned to put it on my lude but never did. and that i am thankful for cause the sebring unit fits really ****ing nice on the stock 240 rad. i custom made my own brackets for the top (which didnt take but 5 mins). and for the bottom i drilled a hole through the bottom of the fan unit and put a bolt through it and nutted it on the bottom of the rad where the stock pulley fan cover sits on. really simple job and it looks clean too. the only modification i had to do to engine bay to get the whole unit as one to drop in was i had to unbolt the AC dryer brackets and push the whole unit towards the rear of the car. i grounded both fans to the chassis and wired the positive side to the ignition so whenever the car is on the fans are on, both of them. i should have took pics with the radiator/fan unit mounted together before i dropped it in but im a dumbass and didnt even think about it. how much do electric fan conversion kits cost for the 240? do they even make one? heres the pics enough of me blabing.

Sorry, no pix yet. Before adding the image URL, copy-paste it into a browser on your end to double check that they work. I know you said it has worked before, but perhaps 'image station' does not allow external domain linking (in other words, images/files can only be accessed from a page hosted on the same server).

HTH

:edit: I hope you get these posted, I'm interested in seeing how it turned out. If anything, pls email me the pics(email in profile)

Why not try hosting them on NICO instead?

Do you mean you just tapped into the ignition circuit somewhere and used that as the power lead for the fans? Or did you incorporate a relay in there somewhere? The reason I ask is that those fans probably pull 10 amps each or more when they start up, and around 6 amps each steady when running. If you've got it wired so that current to the fans doesn't pass through the ignition circuit fuse, you could be asking for melting insulation and fire.

interesting to note that the sebring fits.

ive got my eye on afan from a taurus sho 92-95 auto, dual set up. however i'm thinking of using a thermo switch of sorts . and a manual override for one of them.

Sounds sort of like the setup I have on my 88 S12. I used fans from a 91 Stanza, they are 3-speed fans, I didn't use the lowest speed but I wanted to make use of the two higher ones, so I designed dual control circuits. The first is simple, wired right to the pos. battery terminal, with an adjustable thermo switch and appropriate fuse. The second circuit is also wired to the battery, but uses a 30A relay, which is switched through the ignition circuit and an illuminated toggle switch I installed on the dash. If one of the switches (the toggle or the thermo) is on, the fans run at their medium speed, if both switches are on the fans run at high speed. So when the fans are not needed, they don't run at all. I can switch them on to medium whenever I want via the toggle, but since it goes through ignition there's no chance of leaving them on when leaving the car. If the temp gets up to where the thermo switch kicks in, I have it adjusted so that the fans run for 5-10 minutes after shutdown. I even wired up an LED indicator on the dash which indicates when the fans are running.

Here's a link to the wiring diagram on my website: http://www.v6-s12.com/images/P...w.jpg

Thanks. Your method certainly is simpler. When I got my fans and discovered they were multi-speed, I just had to figure a way to take advantage of the different speeds.

cls12vg30 - what kind of thermo switch did you use and where did you get it? thats the part i'm looking for. i'd like to get an adjustable switch. but the only ones ive seen so far are the ones you cram between the radiator fins. i want a screw in type.

I got it at Advance Auto Parts for about 20 bucks, it uses a temperature probe which mounts up against the radiator, using a plastic mount that goes through the fins.

good news guys, i got my electrical problem sorted out (my ignition fusible link kept blowing. this happened before i even started to do the fan swap. and today i just got my car back from getting that fixed. the problem was the harness grouding out on the head and i had no ****ing clue where it was at). now i can see how the fans actually operate and function. oooooweeeee do i love that sound. when i put my hand in front of the condensor it is literally 'cool' (no bs). while driving the water temperature was normal the whole entire time. not to mention i freed up a lil bit of power at the same time. i did have it rewired though by a 'professional electrician'. all he basically did was put a relay in it (im obviously no electrician here like cls12vg30, hehe). i will go outside in a lil bit and give yall an exact write up of how he did it. overall im VERY pleased with everything.

well im on webtv right now so i cant draw out a diagram on paint or anything but i can explain it. he has a hot wire coming from the positive side of the battery terminal through a fuse then into the relay. then theres one wire from the relay going to the power wires on the fan. then another wire from the relay going into one of the terminals of the factory radiator fan relay (im assuming this is to make the fans go on whenever the ignition is on). and then he grounded the relay in the same spot where i grounded both fans. i might be able to make a drawn out diagram this weekend. but hopefully you get the idea.

what do you mean by factory radiator fan relay?

in the main fuse box under the hood. theres a radiator fan relay in there placed from the factory. since im not using the factory fan setup i dont need it and he just tapped into it for the ignition source.

so does this turn the fan on with the ignition or does it come on at a preset temp? this is very interesting. if its temp. switched then i wont have to go buy an extra piece.

no its when the ignition is on. but im sure you could just take that wire and find out which one makes the factory electrical one come on when it needs and tap into that. well atleast for one of them you can and have the other come on whenever the ignition is on so it would be like how the factory setup is. know what im talking about? i just wanted both on whenever the ignition is on for situations like when i go to the track and im waiting in the staging lane. just pop my hood and turn the ignition on and let the fans do their job. or you could always splice into the one you want to come on at a preset temperature and overide it with a manual switch.
