I never updated this thread...
First of all, don't buy from eagleelectric on ebay. The alternator DIED after one year (about 6k miles?). And the 'low battery charge' light never went away either.
Where did it die, you may ask? On the highway, about 75 miles from my house around 9:30 pm. As I was driving, I noticed a few warning lights turning on and off faintly on the display. Hmmm, that's strange. Then the display began to dim and the car slowly began to lose power. Now I'm down to 55 mph on the highway, so I pull over and...that was it. Dead. There was a strong burning electrical smell in the cabin.
So, I got it towed to a shop and had to spend the night in a Days Inn. Had a friend pick me up the next day and drove us home. The shop called me and told me my alternator was dead and it would be $XXX amount of dollars to fix. I said funk dat, flatbed it to my house.
I found a lightly used OEM alternator for about $100, installed it and it works fine. Dammit.
Alternator on e-bay: $110Tow to shop: $145Motel: $70Gas money for my friend: $40Tow to my house: $200Lightly used OEM alternator: $100
Total: $595
Or, I could've just bought a brand new OEM alternator for $300-some and saved myself $300 and the extra labor.
Lesson learned. If your alternator dies, buy a brand new OEM one, or maybe a lightly used OEM one. No rebuilds or 3rd party brands.
