I thought two guys were going to pull a 'Deliverance' on you.lol. Good story though. All's well that ends with digits. BTW, brake jobs are easy. I just changed the pads on my moms civic yesterday and it took me ~35 min.

Space is for chumps. My friend and I do a lot of work at the college parking lot. Though the spaces are kind of wide so even with a car next to mine i can fit the jack in there and get up my car, I just have to be careful nto to hit their car with the handle of the jack. People look at you really weird when you're doing work in the middle of a crowded parking lot though.

Hehehe, so, it looks like you have plenty of room in the backyard . All you have to do is drive that nice 4-runner through that wall .

Kust messin with you.

Some people can afford to pay others to work on their car, and you are one of those "fortunate" people. But most of us Nico members are strapped for cash because we sink it all into or cars.

It appears that you live in a residential/Sub-Divion. Is that right?

Is there one of those rules that doesn't permit you to park on the sid eof the road? If not, I'd suggest parking along the edge of the road infront of your house.

No, I dont see how it makes them different, only difference I see is that they can afford to, and you can't. I'm not surprised that everyone around you gets crap for having stuff if they actually pay someone, God forbid. Your like twenty something right? Yeah, thats still the right age for immaturity to be expressed in such ways.

"Oh Noes! Im not macho enough to work on my own car, now all the cool, poorer, kids wont like me"

I dont want to sound like I'm some sort of multi-billionaire, because I'm not. I'm glad I can still pay people to do stuff for me and not have to do it myself. How does that make me any less of a car enthusiast than you? Fact is, I do have a life bigger then A car. Because that's all it is, a car. Modding up my car wont make my life any easier, it wont make me any more happier. Sure, it can give me the illusion of happiness, but thats all it is, just an illusion. The only reason I had the motor swapped was because I was younger and stupider. Simple.

I see too many people say "YA KNOW I did the work myself!!" as if they went to nam and back. Oh guess what? Landscapers are actually paid by my parents and I to mow the front lawn. Am I gonna get flak for that too? Why don't I mow it myself? Because I can afford to not mow it myself. Why don't I drink water from the sink and buy bottled water? Because I can afford to buy bottled water. Why do I pay for a nice detailed hand wax & wash for my car instead of doing it myself? Because I can afford to, buddy. I think you guys get the picture now.

You know what else is gonna shock you? My friend, the mechanic whos shop I go to, pays other people to work on his car! you know why? Thats right, Because he can afford to! He doesnt have the time to be fiddling around in his own car when he has other things to worry about. What I think is convinently over looked for the "do-it-yourself" preachers is that most who have done it themselves, would have gladly paid for someone else to do it if they had the $$. The hypocrisy is hilarious! Oh and the answer to the question of why not more mods? Because I can't simply afford to waste money in such things when I have other things to worry about.

Yeah I'm sorry if I don't make my car the center of my life, I have other things to worry about besides a vehicle that who's primary job is to get me from point A to B. Don't get me wrong, I love my car. Which is why I love it enough for all the necessary work to be done at my friends shop. That, and I get a nice discount [I refer people, smog my car there].

In sum, Its stupid to invest so much time, money, and emotions in a car. Maybe a dog, but not a car.

Dude, it sounds like you have alot to worry about! I think you should go see a psychiatrist! You know why? Because you can afford to!

Dude, It's cool that you can afford to pay someone else, but don't go talking the $hit about paying other people to do stuff because you can.

Hypothetical situation:

Something goes wrong with the electrical system in your house. You check the breakers/Fuses, nothing wrong. So, you call a "professional" electrician. Let's just say you call me because that's what I do . Well, you know what's going to happen? I'm going to find the GFI outlet on that circuit, and either reset it or replace it. That will fix the problem.

Total cost for "professional" to fix it = $150 minimum.

Total cost for you to fix it = $12 for GFI outlet.

So you choose? Are you going to allow yourself to be raped because you can? Or do you want to get off your obviously lazy A$$ and do something for yourself?

hey Lil' Mike, it seems you just went on a rant about a guy joshin' ya...

I'd pay people to work on my car if I had the cash too...

I'd still wanna know what they're doing, but I'd pay them to do it...

I mow my own lawn! (and I despise it...I need to pay some mexican kids to do it for me...and use their own lawnmower...wait a minute...Rick, you ever think of taking up landscaping?)

No, I can't afford to pay someone 7 bucks a minute to listen to my problems. I do that here for free.

I'll talk about whatever, you guys asked for it. Why is it so accepted to shun those who have things done for them? I dont get it, when did it become uncool to pay for services? ya know, the people who pay for these services, are what make the economy go round. Just remember that.

You know what, I would call the electrician. Its just dangerous messing around with something I haven't any knowledge of. I mean, its electricity; a necessary utility! I wouldn't mess with that, I'd hire the electrician and happily pay him in cash. I wouldnt know where to begin to fix the problem myself, let alone without any light to read any books!

Ok poorman, the rest of NICO has been really nice, but you obviously are a pompous a** who thinks he knows it all at. That used to be my job, so consider this as part of your "hazing". Hey, someone had to say it

Oh and James, yeah I get more and more bitter around the holidays. I hate the holidays, this year I'm going to get dragged to my alcoholic uncle's house. yay!

Ya, I'm sorry about being a "little" rude to you . I just wanted to give you an example of how much money, and time, can be saved if you do somethings yourself.

I'm sorry. Can't we all just get along ? I say hell no, because that would be no fun

hahahahaha Its cool. Whatever makes you happy dude. I have the money to pay people to work on my car and mow my lawn too but I dont do it. Guess that's cause I can't afford to waste money on simple stuff like that. lol As for paying people to wash and wax your car There will never be a day I understand that. Don't understand how you are any part car guy, or car enthusiast for that matter. But to each their own.

Regardless, have a happy holiday season and don't stress so much.

Anybody can be a car enthusiast. You don't have to actually work on your own car to be one. Take a look at most racing series, 9 times out of ten the driver doesn't work on the car. They don't usually work on their personal vehicles either.

Most r"rich" guys don't work on their vehicles either. The only one that I can really think of that does is Jay Leno, but he is an exception. But most other rich guys can still be considered car enthusiast.

I don't really know how to define what a car enthusiast is though. Probably something along the lines of a person that enjoys driving even if they have nowhere to go. Someone who takes pleasure in talking about cars.
