UPDATE!!!1one

Ok, so my dad and i got the head off as of 8am this morning. found some stuff that kinda sucks. one thing my block is farther out than my head, which is just freaking fantastic. another thing was.. well i have pictures so I will just let them do the talking.

Ok, here is the block from the top. notice how gross it is. lots of carbon build up because I never tuned it.

This picture sucks, but the next one will clear it up. this is the #1 cylinder bore. kiiinda rough, but nothing a good few minutes of running shouldnt cure. lets be honest, the bottom end isnt coming apart.

Heres the head from the underside. nothing too bad, but she could use some cleaning because of all the carbon buildup. no worries, this is going to the machine shop this afternoon.

Holy foreign objects in cylinder head batman! i dont know what happened, but this thing got raped right through it's pants. there were two of them actually. side by side, which leads me to believe one large object made it up by the head stud and ravaged them both. so, i need to buy two lifters... help? anyone? i will give you my first born.

Sorry about the image quality, my cell phone camera was having some trouble with the early morning light. ok, so thats all i have for now, feel free to make fun of me.

Dang dude, your lifters be shagged!

You should probably rebuild the thing (you know that) but heck, fix what's broke and don't worry 'bout what ain't!

the bottom end is new! i dont really want to tear it apart again because its all settled and broken in. it cant have more than 12k miles on it. lifters are totally shagged though. only those two, and i have found the culprit, a spare washer from the head studs. surprisingly its in pretty good shape! it was in one of the oil passages between the two valves, so both lifters hit the same thing.

sold!!

the head goes off to southern cylinder head on monday. a complete tear down, clean, valve job, resurfacing and reassembly looks like itll be around 100 or so bucks so. unfortunately for me i need some more work done because this one lifter is still stuck in there. the block is a whole lot out, which kinda sucks. more than five thou, which is a whole lot for a large chunk of iron such as this. im not really sure what to do, but it will probably involve an oem head gasket. anyway, we will see...

Yep, go OEM with that for sure. With some ARP studs you should be ok, but get it tuned this time dangit!

i never thought the block would be out so much. it may seem like its out more because of all the junk on the block surface, but its still out a good bit. anyone know how much an oem head gasket usually runs?

also, anyone know a place i get get a head gasket thats thicker than stock? the stud at the front of the engine (top left) sits really high, and i have to use several washers to get the nut to pull the head down properly. if you look at the picture you can see where it was leaking. a thicker gasket would solve this, as would a shorter stud. i am going to see about having one made but if that fails i might like to find a taller gasket.

this is going to end up costing me a fortune. who didnt see that one coming...
