if you go to barns and noble or a book store buy a book on turbocharging and read on concepts and how things work then apply what you learn, best way.

Welcome to nico!I would keep the SR stock (for now). You will have tons of fun, more than enough HP. Your face will be sore from the perma-grin. Cool too-"ya..it's an SR".Just get it running. You will learn a lot about the car and can always upgrade later.Honest, that car will fly!

why only 350 to 450....when you can have an 850 hp. there's an article I believe in import tuner mag discussing a built SR for 850 hp. check it out. I just skimmed through it.

Just wondering, why did you pick a 240 to build a drift car...

Oh and I would look into rocker arm stoppers, SR's seem to be notorious for shooting rockers out the engine if your rev happy, which most 240 owners seem to be.

Best of luck, you should see some serious numbers with the upgrades you mentioned, along with a good tune.

I thought about makeing a drift car at one time, but right now i just want a car with some get up behind it. I want to be competitive at the strip but also be able to drive it on the streets safe. Maybe one day I will look into drifting, but not now.

im not sure if you have ever been in a 240 with 350 horsepower before, but its intense. i wouldnt trust myself with that much power. i would be MORE than satisfied with 250.
Took the words right outta my mouth. The better question is have you EVER been in ANY car with 350hp-450hp. So how do you know you want that much? Is it the magic number that you read about on the net? Try smaller hp to start with 215-250. Thats slightly stock on a sr20det, see if you like it. Than if its not enought begine the build and enjoy everyminute. Good luck on the build

Yes I have driven a car with 450+hp. I used to drag my dads corvette which had 515hp so I know what it feels like to have that much power. I just think 350-450hp will be good for me because of the weight of the car.

Are you planning on running 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile? I know you have an 1/8 mile track close to your home. If so you might want to rethink the turbo 4 engine. It takes a bit to build boost to make the hp and torque and the 1/8th goes by fast. Have you thought about dropping an LS based motor in it? You can pick up a 5.3 truck motor fairly cheap and can make 350+hp with it easily. That will give you the torque down low where you need it for the short track. It's just a thought and I know some folks are against the V8s but you can't argue with the torque curves.

I'm looking to do some 1/4 mile running. However I did think about putting a 400 SBC in it but just decided to go with the 4 banger. Its the first one I have had and I wanted to see what it could do. I do love the V8s though.

I kinda want the end product to be a stree/show car that has enough power to be competitive when i take it to the strip and be able to turn some heads. This is just going to be a car for me to have fun with and enjoy. Plus I don't know how to drift although i do like watching other people do it.
