As the title says i am new to the tuner world. I have 1990 240sx and am getting ready to drop an sr20det in it. I don't know a whole lot about turbo engines but I can't wait to learn. Well i'm wanting to get about 350-450whp or so out of it. So any advice will be appreciated but i will be punding the forums to find out as much as i can. Thanks.

Well, after this, about 40 people are going to post and tell you to search.... as if ONE person wasn't enough.

Question - What are you building the car for? Why do you want so much power?

You will have to do engine work. Camshafts, bigger turbine, fuel system, etc. etc. etc.

i agree with BH: why do you want that much power?

you aren't going to get all your answers in this thread, it'll actually most likely get closed.

look around the SR20DET specific forum for your answers.

Fair enough answer.I think getting to the 350 mark shouldn't be TOO hard, but when you start pushing to 450... you might run into more and more money issues and reliability issues.

350whp isn't too hard to obtain. You should be able to achieve that with bigger injectors, MAF, turbo, and a really good tune.

350hp is easy to obtain with some money of course.

I made 356 hp with 16 lbs with a garrett gt2871r, tomei 750cc inj, HKS 264 cams and a Z32 maf. Plan on doing a head gasket before you try to make that kind of power, and doing before you swap it in would be better and easier.

G/L with it and do a little searching, theres alot of info on the net and on this site.

I was looking into getting a garrett gt2871r turbo kit, BC 264 cams, greddy intake,750cc injectors and a couple other things.. So what do you think about that set up?

I was also thinking maybe a 300zx maf. Would that be good enough or should i go with something bigger.

Sounds great if you wanna run stock boost. U have to change the maf (Z32/300zx) in order to run the kind of boost you would like to.

But thats a good setup and with a good tune u shouldnt have any problems making 350-400 hp.

Welcome to NICO! If you want 400 hp, talk to codyace or idahotuner. Idahotuner (ben) just got done not so long ago with his 400hp sr. i'd find the thread but im too lazy right now. This is a thread codyace started a while ago. I think he is pushin like 420 in his sr zer...age=1Hope that helps!

Wow! Looks like you got a project there! Not really a big fan of the wheels, but I'm assuming they're just roll arounds or something temporary. They wouldn't look too bad with some meatier tires I bet. Anywyas, nice pignose and we look foreward to seeing it progress. :bighthumb

The wheels are temporary. I'm just gonna work on the engine right now and then the exterior work will begin.

I already know it's gonna take a lot of cash but it will be worth it when it's all done.

are you gonna work on your suspension cause 350 hp on stock suspension would feel squirrelly as hell.

Well, you want to set it up for a "drag" style, right?

HKS offeres drag style coilovers I think..... They used to anyways...

sounds like you want almost exacly what blacksrjdm has!thats ok good luck with your project

for suspension you are going to want good coilovers, rucas, toe arms, and tie rods to start. bushings will also probably need replacing. aftermarket tension rods and a front brace would be good too

and just so you know, im not sure if you have ever been in a 240 with 350 horsepower before, but its intense. i wouldnt trust myself with that much power. i would be MORE than satisfied with 250.

but do what you want, have fun

Like I said I'm don't know a whole lot about turbos but do I need a BOV or can I do without it. I haven't been able to find an answer to satisfy me.
