So you meet this girl. Totally hit it off. She's everything you could possibly ask for. Into sports, same hobbies, great fashion sense, and more. About 2-3 weeks of "talking", she says "I love you (insert name here)"

What would your reaction be?

Totally hypothetical, of course.

Hmm, a tough one,

from your name I take it you are female.

guys dont fll in love as easy as women , should I lie and say " I wuv you too?" or shiuld I say thnks I liek you too?

Chances are, after 3 weeks we wouldnt love her yet, but I guess it could happen.

This very situation has happened to me twice, including recently.

Both times I really like(d) the chick. Both times, being the hopeless romantic that I am, that silly word may have slipped from me once or twice , but generally I just play it cool and try to be nice and receptive without quite going so far as to say it back, just because love scares the snot out of me (after what happened the first time this situation occurred) and I really think it takes quite a lot to love someone. I really don't question how I care for her so much as I question if she really cares for me, yaknow? So since I question her caring, I kinda lay off the L bomb for awhile. (I sound like such a ****, but, particularly this second time around, she's really vulnerable and stuff, so...)

Actually, with the second time around (still dating this chick), I usually say "Okey dokey" and smile really sweet and shtuff, or kiss her (if private), just so that I'm reciprocating some.

Ask this hypethetical person to either rethink that comment, explain that "love" is thrown around a whole lot and it shouldn't be, and then see what happens.

I don't think he, I mean, she was serious. It was kind of a slip. But anyway, just wanted to see if my reaction was normal.

i think some people dont get the difference, between say like and love, because the word love is used so often, like "i love pizza" maby it just kind of slips

It does slip.

Honestly this is a really intricate issue. I've eventually learned to just classify love into 3 kinds to keep life from getting to creepy.

1- friend, love a dude, love a chick, no matter, you love your friends

2- love=like a lot, that is that you really friggin like em and saying "I really friggin like you" takes too long to get the emphasis out... sooo...

3-"in love" creepy marriage junk... I think this only happens once or twice in a lifetime

Just my thoughts...

Vicki, it would mostly depend on how I felt about that girl when she said it. There is no right or wrong answer. Every situation is different. But telling a person you love them doesn't mean automatic engagement ring.

If that response were to come after only 2 weeks, i'd be somewhat shocked. Everyone may feel that way after meeting someone initially, but to say it so soon is somewhat brash. Feelings taking over the brain i guess. I wouldn't mind it if they only said it once, if it became an everyday thing, i'd be like: " you don't even know me that well!"

Whoa, hold up. Vicki, this happened to you? With a girl? Should I be confused or begging for more details?

Smart kid.

I tried to cater it into a situation that most of the guys on here can relate to.

Anyway, I like this kid a lot and I think we were talking about something funny and I said something witty so it just kinda slipped. I'm sure it meant nothing more. I just kinda responded with "right-o" and changed the topic.

I do like my women but I don't like having to talk to them.

almost the same thing happened to me, and i regret my reaction to this day. a few years ago i met this incredible girl from michigan while we were at college. she was in one of my classes and took me the entire semester to work up the nerve to talk with her. we ended up talking for about a week then she left for the summer. we started to talking (alot) the following fall, but she had a boyfriend. it was obvious she really liked me and was probably on the fence with dumping the boyfriend. one night we talked on the phone the entire night, and she said in german, i love you. i dont speak german but i dragged it out of her what she meant. i panicked and didn't say it back, although i definitly felt like i was falling in love with her. i fought to keep her, but she moved out to hershey pa with the boyfriend. i still think about her quite a bit, and still wonder what would have happened if i ran with the "i love you"!!!! just my 2cents
