Don't give up yet, just learn how to filter out the vitriol(ists).

There is quite a bit of info available on the site if you can take the time to search archived posts. Some folks are just a bit more inclined to harass you than to help you. In many cases it takes the same amount of time to type out an answer to a question as it does to type out a smart a$$ response, or to simply ignore your post. Not all of us have owned and maintained these cars for 15 years and/or professionally. Perhaps that's why we are here in the first place....for some friendly help and or exchange of ideas.

JDM is Japanese Domestic Market and pertains to cars and parts shipped over here from Asia.

According to Google....

My guess is that they mean a chevy engine.....but I cannot imagine the nightmare involved in making one of them work in a Q.

There...isn't "the google" helpful??

Japanese Domestic Market and Small Block Chevy.

The tolerances on the latter are 5 to 10 times what they are on a VH45DE, so your the fact that your best friend's brother in law Jeb rebuilt his 350 GMC does not mean he is qualified to work on your VH45DE, even just to replace the rods. RTFSM = Read The Factory Service Manual for further enlightenment.

so what if a stock GM 350 has looser tolerances from the factory? It's nice the VH is assembled tighter, to give it more room to wear before it's worn out, but oil is oil and friction bearings are friction bearings. They may vary a bit, but if a sbc has .0025" clearance on the rod journals and so does the VH, they'll both run just fine. That may be a brand new spec for the sbc and after 100,000 miles of wear on the VH, but they'll both run fine. The point is, if you demand your engine have perfect as-absolutely-new specs in every regard before you'll even consider using it, you're being unnecessarily picky. For the price these cars are and the price it costs to get them to brand-spankin-new conditions, it's not realistic to ask most owners to demand these high standards. They just want to use their car and won't often be willing to put in a new engine if the old engine will run just fine for another 100K.

I have been involved in 2 JDM VH takeout swaps, and let me tell you, it's almost not worth it.

If I had it to do over again, I kid you not, I'd have dropped in a modern GM small-block (LS1, anyone?) and been done with it.

It's all dependent on the TYPE of hassle, not the amount.

FWIW, I got my good JDM takeouts for around $800 shipped, and put another $1000 in parts on them before the swap.

Wow. I had found a JDM takeout from Texas for like $495. I began pricing them when I was afraid that my chain guides would go. At $1000 to rehab (assuming), wouldn't the $1500 be more acceptable than the $7-8000 I've heard quoted for a VH?

I wasn't really to keen on having to replace the engine because I felt that the odometer would display a higher mileage and wouldn't match the engine. I assumed it would be a problem as far as official documents would go.

Every single question will have been revealed in my previous 10,000 posts.

I'm not positive that any of the shops CA or NJ will pass? Without looking things up in FSM.
YES I found it after an hour of searching, I almost gave up!

That alone should be enough to have the questions listed on the forum. If not is the price negotiable?

By the way I had to use Google search because the NICO Search engine is TRASH! I have to admit it still was'nt easy but hey I found it.

As I read the offer, it is only open to technicians.

Also, it might only be a rhetorical offer!

Too bad about Yogi.

After posting I see that Dennis actually wanted those who want to see those questions will have to look at 10K posts. After looking at that many posts, that should make you smart enough to work on your own car or find someone that can.

Could these 10k posts be compiled to just make a Q45 doctrine?
