Should we start a petition to rename Sandy to Hurricane Snooki?

I say this because it totally blew everything on the east coast.

On a serious note though, James are your friends and family OK? As much as I love weather, I'm not sure how well I could handle the aftermath of that.

Yeah so far everyone I know is ok. I'm not sure the condition of the restaurant, but word has it my beach house in Little Compton is ok, although the road to get in is destroyed.
Here's some from NJ:

Im getting nothing like the pics up north. I only saw 3 trees down and some creeks and small rivers flooding still today. I never lost power nor did anyone else except one guy at work. And I only stayed at work for 3 hrs cuz no one was there and there was no work.

Its a good time to get my Assassins Creed bundle we talked about earlier :) I made out pretty good on that and thanks to a f*** up, I was never charged the first $100 down payment and I got the 500GB instead of the 320GB.

I honestly think it may have been alittle bit over rated, but better to be over prepared. I mean it looks bad but could have been much much worse if it was a major Hurricane. I was looking at pics from NY and the subways earlier and that surge really got them good

Honestly, it just might be the thing to get the economy rolling again in some of the worse off towns and states. All sorts of new stuff should be paid for by insurance.

we just got power back... glad governor did something right

we had utility people from other parts of the country lending a hand to get power up ASAP... even from Florida

i'm sorta glad it took a sharp left hook; i wasn't prepared for this at all

in my area, it didn't reach 70mph

the area i worked at saturday was near AC & hope their parcels didn't flew away; i was baggin' in sometimes strapping them to the handrails & using porch statues to keep them from flyin' away.

most of the residents/customers i met during my deliveries at galloway/absecon weren't preparing for that hurricane that much. I didn't see one home getting plywood boards on their windows. Hope they're OK because i'm not working in that area this week (swing/cover driver for FedEx HD). I told 'em it was serious business if your regular driver packed up & left inland for a shelter...

back to work in 3 hours...

Sad that LBC lost his Alti Coupe in the storm. His town got clobbered with water

I lost power as well as 850,000 other Philadelphia Electric (PECO) customers. Mine came back after 36 hours, which wasn't too bad. We didn't get that much rain, but the wind gusted over 80 mph a few times. It got a bit chilly overnight, kinda funny to see your breath when you awaken. My block fared well, but there were a ton of trees that fell all around us, many of which took out power/telephone/cable lines with them. On the plus side, there's now plenty of firewood available in my town if you have a chainsaw.

live just south of trenton

work as a cover/ swing driver... area ranges from red bank to trenton, camden to cape may

i was at holmdel and above nearby cities... eerie to see no power in that area yet.

they were using SCHOOL BUSES in the oldbridge township section to block left hand turn signals from major roads to side streets :ohno: because people were moving or blowing through traffic cones; to get to their destinations, only to turn around after seeing a big tree or downed telepohone poles/power lines laying across the road... that was along us9

then when i was heading back to the base on rte 18 towards the brunswicks areas, saw a huge line of people going to get gas at the few stations that had generator-powered pumps :squint:

can't believe those gas stations don't have generators as backup... i'll refuel my company vehicle in the AM since i don't want to wait 2 hours to get to a pump.

now just looking up traffic reports so i can plan my next route tomorrow

Both Long Island Matts suffered damage to their coupes as well, not sure about homes.
Gas is going to be a HUGE.problem for the next few days. People are getting themselves arrested for it.
I have some crazy pics from News12 feed, ill upload them once I get a computer back. Mobile only right now.

I saw some pretty bad pics of a neighborhood on the New Jersey coastline. Instead of water being up to the windows, it was all sand. I cant imagine it being a Cat 3 hitting the same spot. Im sorry about the Coupe LBC!

As far as insurance, I think the rates would be too unaffordable. Hurricanes dont hit the NE directly normally but for people living fom Texas to North Carolina, I feel its be too common and too expensive for people and insurance companies to be able to afford regularly.

The Ocean doesn't normally meet the bay there during big storms despite being a barrier island, but with the unusually huge surge they predicted with this storm, it's not surprising that it happened.

Here are a couple of the more dramatic pics from the News 12 feed. There are many, many more. Not sure how legit these are, but they seem it to me. Sorry if these were linked in already.

The biggest issue right now is gasoline. Refineries in Edison are non-functional and the ports in NY and NJ are still closed (as far as I know). Gas comes in spurts and when it does you wait 3-4 hours in line to get it, sometimes only being allowed to max out as low as $10.00. A few of my friends have actually been driving 20 minutes past the Pennsylvania border for gasoline, simply because they have gas and you dont have to wait hours for it. Obviously the majority of this gas is going into generators. There are still a few million people without power and some estimates dont have it being restored before 7-10 days. Waterworld...

seeing FedEx, UPS, Postal Service deliveries coming to your home gives some people hope that we're starting to bounce back to normal... it's still a pain in the a** that the govt blocked off most left-hand turns; i'm double backing into parking lots to do modified u turns... most NJ drivers do suck & i accept the extra time/frustration about that

but fueling the vehicles & waiting in line for about an hour to do it sucks! i'm glad i'm hourly now instead of under a sub-contractor (did ja know Ground/ Home Delivery are not really FedEx employees? those guys are paid salary or by the stop ~ see browncafe.com fedex sections for a peek at this operation)

also glad i filled up my personal vehicle before the storm; i have enough fuel for the next 2 days of commuting...

the Gov should have asked for more military generators from the western states to be transported to area gas stations... now i know how the 70s gas shortage felt like

seems like they're working from south to north trying to restore power... some fellow drivers/couriers are still living out of a shelter

keep a chin up, NJ!~

I wonder what they are planning to do with all the sand that got washed into the streets and houses? I guess just bring it back to the beach and try and make the sand dunes again?

Very sorry about Brian's Altima coupe. :(

Ditto. I finally went out last night to fill up. Left my house at 3:00 AM thinking there wouldnt be as much of a line. No such luck, I got home at 6:00 AM. Good part is they ran out of 89 but offered the 93 at the price of the 89. Filled up on premium for $3.49/gallon. Some stations in Paterson NJ are being accused of price gouging, selling regular for close to $5.50/gallon. I think by law they have to keep it within 10% of the price before the State of Emergency was declared.

This is kind of insane.

I wasn't affected by the weather of Sandy but no one can get gas. People have to make some serious decisions on whether to stay at work, or drive home. People are waiting up to 4.5hrs for 5 gallons of fuel. So if you don't take public transportation you are in a REAL pickle. The Co. my brother works for decided to purchase a fuel truck(?) to distribute to the employees; many of which don't have access to fuel and have been working from home.

That would be the logical and most economical step but we're talking NJ here, home of the infamous and obnoxious NJ DEP (NJ's over-zealous version of the EPA). They may be deem all that sand "contaminated" by sewage and not allow it returned to the beach without some sort of special processing. That's not a joke. They're crazy.

^ Yea I didn't think about the sewage and stuff. Ha they will probably do some type of process to the sand I really wouldn't doubt it... In the end its just more of our money being spent. :/
