lmfao. Hey greg, i like the NICO design on zoints. But, how do i change the background? I think its not letting me edit it because its a community design.

Not sure, Ben - I'm the Communities Consultant, not the Design Guru... You guys will be experts with that interface LONG before me!

Check the first post, there's a link to a support forum as well.

Do you guys have a special "intro" page somewhere that appeals specially to forum administrators?

I'm going to suggest this to like 2 dozen forums, but I'd like to be able to link the admins to something that really explains WHY this is such a great idea and how it can benefit their forum.

The existing intro page is great for would-be users, but I think it leaves some of the benefits for admins/owners out.

Why bother with zoints when you have a profile section here at Nico?

It seems to be to be duplicating existing features of the forum which will then end up competing with it.

Just seems unecessarly redundant when you have profiles for your cars at Nico as part of your account.

I agree that it does beg the question of why we still bother with ordinary NICO profiles, or profiles on any other forum that is zoint-equipped, for that matter.

Honestly, I think doing away with the normal forum profiles would encourage people to use zoint, which is good as it's far superior imo.

At least for any new users who are signing up, it'd be tough to try and convert every single extant NICO user though, at least the inactive ones.

Because the current NICO profiles don't have any of the functionality of Zoints... they're not a social networking system.

We'll be looking at the NICO profiles in the near future, as they have indeed become rather redundant.

BTW the idea of a centralized forum profile account for all your "favorite forums" really does have appeal.

It would be nice to be able to sign up to any forum and have a centralized profile location so that you don't have to customize your profiles on all of the hentai and cosplay forums that one signs up with.

Precisely. Jesda gets it.

Which is WHY we have to be united and on guard against the corporate conglomerates that want to "squeeze out" the independently-run forums in favor of revenue-based ad machines that give NOTHING back to the members.

Hell, they don't even KNOW their members!

Anyone think the staff at Edmund's has Nissan Master Techs? Enthusiasts? People who collect Nissans? People who work on them every weekend?

They don't exist to help members, they exist to sell ad space, and THAT should piss you off.

Thats not what I meant.

http://www.theadminzone.com/fo...23180

"Revenue Sharing

As stated above, this will be a revenue sharing system. By simply entering your Google Adsense publisher ID into our system, you will automatically receive a percentage of impressions on the profiles of the members from your forum. In addition, you will receive impressions on the profiles of members your members subsequently refer. For example, if you refer 25 members who each refer 10 friends, you will receive ad impressions on 250 different profiles. After less than one day of using this system, the top forum has received 896 impressions as of this writing. As the social network grows, this could potentially be a significant new revenue stream for community owners."

Myspace doesnt compete with NICO, because Myspace is there to help 15 year olds meet each other for cocaine parties. NICO exists to help fix our cars and amuse ourselves with various discussions. Zoints or Myspace, its all there for ad revenue and traffic. The only thing I care about are the threads in Infiniti Online Mechanic.

For the end user, Zoints is just a directory of forums and members. You can just as easily find this information on Google by typing in "Nissan forum"

Not quite so, and it's getting worse:

http://www.google.com/search?h...earch

In your opinion, are those other forums better / more useful than Nico? According to Google, they are. According to statistics, they're not. Google is SUPPOSED to return results with the most good useful content.

Or how about the result just below NICO:http://www.autobytel.com/conte...id/54 - Huge corporation, no good solid content.

How many people have YOU met that have said, "Damn, I wish I knew you guys were out there to help me"? People who are "car retarded"...

Zoints helps drive people to communities based upon their interests.

How many new members are going to end up at our Spanish forum as a result of Zoints due to the fact a huge Spanish forum has joined Zoints?

How many people in the world really don't know much about forums, but love social networks? And will one day click on "communities" at the top out of curiosity or notice one of their new friends on Zoints is a member of some community called NICOclub and click through to find out what it is....

"A Nissan forum? Neat, I have a Nissan. I wonder if they can tell me what the hell this clicking sound is i'm hearing?"

How badly did NICO get raped by Google when they delisted us? For NO good reason other than they were "updating their software".....

Any forum owner who wants to count solely on Google is a retard. Zoints allows us to diversify in case that BS happens again.

Zoints brings people together.Zoints brings communities together.Zoint allows forums to remain independent and protected against corporate entities who don't play by the rules.

I still dont understand where Myspace is oppressing anyone by collecting ad revenue. This is the part that really confuses me.

Google seems to be working the way it should. It lists Nissan forums, including NICO as item #5. I suppose you could make the claim that FreshAlloy is getting screwed? Yahoo's directory organizes a list of Nissan forums, and seems to do it fairly well.

Until Zoints becomes a central profile for all the forums I go to, I dont get much immediate benefit from it. I guess its handy at best for generating some traffic, but "HUGE NEWS"? No.

Me too. I hope I didn't say that. In actuality, I don't have beef with MySpace (other than seeing it as a cesspool).
Jesda wrote:Google seems to be working the way it should.
On the surface, yes. Behind the scenes, there are significant problematic issues for forum owners.

That'd be great, but a lofty goal... Some will find it useful, some will not.

Myspace is what it is.. I only have an account on there to look at teh wimmenz. Facebook is far better for finding actual individuals..

I think this is a great way to link together the "myspace thing" to the "forum thing"..... and everyone can do their own thing.....

Google doesnt have to be fair to everyone, theyre obviously going to favor those who take care of them..... you can do it the easy way by unloading cash into google, or do it the hard way..... I would say though that probably most people dont click on the first link in google anyway, but definitely if you make on the first page, your pretty good...
