Hi guys

i will be ordering 2890 or 2890a's from the states as nissan australia want 350 for each strut

now i want to confirm which model (2890 or 2890a) will fit my q45.

Now my q45 is a 1993 model but from what i have read this does not necessarily mean my car requires a certain model.

I believe the australian Q45 is different to the 1990-1993 q45 you got over there. (grill, foglights..just to name a few)

Is there anything i can check/measure on the car to ascertain which model tokico strut i need to order? Would the part numbers off my standard struts help?
What about my VIN number?

I want to know for certain that what i order fits, as a return/refund would be hideously expensive.

thanks

-ian

Call infiniti of scottsdale / infinitipartsusa.com give them your vin. Tokico are like 100 a pop i THINK. The boots are cheaper elsewhere, also i saw a post on colord boots. a matching blue would look cool i think it was like 10 bills. Everyone says talk to joe at scottsdale but you will probably never get a hold of him. Leon is the most frequent guy i talk to

According to Tokico, here are the front part numbers for US cars:

1990-1993 HU2890
1994-1996 HU2890A

Providing the oem part numbers off of your car might be a good idea. If you have them, post them and I'll see what I can do to help you.

IIRC the difference in the fronts is the diameter of the lower mount. Would production date or last 6 digits of the VIN help? It sounds like the Aussie Q's may have gotten some of the 94 upgrades earlier hidden behind a 93 hood badge.

Another suggestion would be to measure the diameter of the lower mount and wait for the owner in this thread to get his delivered so he can measure his set. Better to wait a week to make sure rather than pay return shipping half way across the world.

my guess is his car was produced in 1993, but really like our 94-96Q........alot of 1994 model year cars were produced in mid/late 1993 and sold in some countries as a 1993 model, and in other countries as a 1994 model.Just depends on that countries laws, some require the model year advertised to actually match the year in which the car was built.

Nico member "OZQ45" has a 1993 Q45.

This is what his signature says:

Yep... I think many other countries consider the build date of the car to be it's model year.

yes i have contacted nissan australia
i bought my rear shocks from them since they were reasonabley priced
the rears were $250 for the pair from japan

they want $350 each (trade price) for the front and i know i can get them cheaper from the US. around 300ish delivered for a pair.

so i just need to know which model to get.

can you give me joes email then please?

emailed a guy named larry and he said its not his department and told me to call.
well i cant call due to time differences and asked if he could forward my email on to parts.
no reply and that was a few days ago.

surely it shoudn't be this hard?
i have the cash waiting to buy them but no one at IOS seems to want to help.
why exactly are they reccommended by this forum?

ok joe has reccomended the hu2890
which appears to be the correct model as i have measured the lower mounting point and got ~22mm

as per this thread will-a-hu2890-tokico-fit-a-94-t320837.html

the 22mm measurement corresponds to the hu2890 model

thanks

Ok. what a massive f*** up

the struts which were sent are HU2890's
whereas i need HU2890A's

so joe tesensky has reccomended me the wrong shocks. which is not uncommon after reading another thread. i did warn him i had a australia spec q45 and also gave him the vin number. so now im stuck with shocks that will not fit any car in this country (seems all the q45s here use the hu2890a)

does anyone know if its possible to press out the rubber bush with metal collar and replace with the correct one?
would save heaps on freight cost. just send the bushes back and get sent out the proper ones.

thanks
