I just tried to update and it looks like they’ve paused the rollout. When tapping the “update to A12” option in settings per the instructions, it thinks for a minute and then says:

“Thank you for your purchase of Android 12 update.
The update will be available on Jul,8 2024 (Stage 2).
You will get an email when the update is ready for you.”

Probably safe to say things aren’t going smoothly for their user base so far.

Based on the 'stage 2' comment, it looks like they are doing a phased roll out which is typical for these kinds of updates (Google does the same thing sometimes).

They told me they anticipate to have it fixed by end of this week. Straight Android Auto works fine though, so it's not really a paperweight but just a more expensive VLITE lol. I've been using that for now.

I emailed em yesterday but likely won't get a response till Tuesday - no updates sent to me via email just yet.

EDIT: They are now telling me end of this week...so just been using straight Android Auto for now.

FYI, I installed the Android 12 update this morning for the VLine VL2 and everything went fine. No Wi-Fi issues specifically. I will say that I never got GApps to complete a backup on 8.1 (it would just hang forever at 20-30%, and I have nothing much to back up) so maybe plan on starting from scratch if you can’t get an Android backup.

I also agree with Ilya that the system is much more responsive. Sadly they don’t appear to have fixed the janky Android menu navigation with the knob (it still can’t decide if it wants to scroll, select, or just jump around) but at least it’s a faster janky.

Finally took the plunge and upgraded. All appears to be well. Was hoping the update would've somehow fixed the phone echo/delay that callers hear but it did not.

Please keep this thread STRICTLY about the GROM Audio VLine VL2. Non GROM posts moved to a different topic: grom-audio-vline-vl2-alternatives-t634165.html

That being said, I finally got my FW issue resolved. Something happened during my OTA and it basically bricked the unit in a matter of speaking. GROM sent me the 8.1 update on SD for free, I reverted back to 8.1 and then redid the update to 12 and all is well.

Still very snappy after putting most of my apps back on but the A/V delay is still present in stand-alone apps that play video (like YouTube TV or YouTube). Overall I'm happy.

Good to hear Grom got back to you. I think I'll finally take the time to update once I'm back from some travels, I really want it to feel faster. I hope the built-in Spotify works better than on 8, that's what I'm looking forward to most.

Bringing this up again. Has anyone who uses CarPlay been able to successfully use their phone for calls without getting the echo/delay?

I have Android, but I'm able to send and receive phone calls through the factory Bluetooth instead of the VLine. I still see the calls on Android Auto, but it treats the VLine more like a controller and the car's built-in Bluetooth like a headset. I haven't noticed delay or echo once I'm in a call, but nobody has told me either.

How does that work? Are you using Android Auto wirelessly?

Yes, I have my phone connected to the stock head unit still for calls. You can do this from the car's settings menu. For some reason, my phone did not send call audio through Bluetooth to my VLine so I disabled phone call permission in my phone's Bluetooth settings to the VLine. Maybe it's just different on iPhone.

Appreciate the response. I may need to do some playing around with the system to see if that works for me.

Some of the frequently asked questions are:

1. What is the difference between GROM VLine VL2 and VLite VT2?

The GROM VLine VL2 offers wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a stand-alone Android interface that you can use to download almost any app from the Play Store to use in your car. here: https://gromaudio.com/vl_compare.html

2. Can I install the system myself?

Yes, you can install the system if you have some technical ability. You will need to disassemble the portion of the dashboard to connect the system to the back of the stereo, and display and
Install the GPS antenna. On some vehicles, you will also need to install the aftermarket microphone (included). But most of our systems now support the factory microphone. We have plenty of install videos on our
