Hey guys... I own a 92 240sx with a s13 blacktop with stock suspension and nismo mounts. the car performs very well, but it is extremly uncomfortable to drive. Engine noises, mix with viberations, and viberation sound of interior pieces, high way wind sounds, road noises etc etc. Omg all thoese things add together drives me nuts and hurts my ear. Some times the noises drives me crazy and make me want to kick a baby in the face. This 240 is my daily drive and i spents 2-3 hours in my car everyday...Any idea on how to improve ride quality? Are your ride as unbearable as mine?

my girl complained about that for a bit. what did i do to fix it? got another car. notice i said ANOTHER, not a new one. get a stock honda beater to drive comfortably in, and rock the nissan when you actually want to "drive".

There is truly nothing you can do to a 240sx to make it comfortable. No matter how hard you try. If you want comfortable, buy Lexus.

my s14 gave me a serious back problem, and with coilovers wasn't making it any better. Got an SC300 and changed the seats on the s14. Problem Solved

Replace the stock sound deadening, find the rattles and fix them, get a quieter exhaust, do some kind of bedliner in your engine bay, different seats in the interior help tremendously.

My car rides firm but not harsh and I only get interior rattles occasionaly although my steering wheel starts shaking around 50-55 for some strange reason.

Wheel weights fell off or wheels somehow became unbalanced. Try putting different wheels up front to test this if you want to avoid paying for balancing. Otherwise you might have worn/missing bushings up front. I have the same problem, but I have 2 cars and barely drive the 240 at the moment there's a decent bit wrong with it.

Haha, then you should never change any suspension arms or switch to polyurethane bushings..

I took the wheels off recently to change the front brakes and the weights were on them but I saw some of the bushings and they were rotten to hell and didnt even feel like rubber, more like damp mud. Right now I dont have the money for a bushing kit but I will buy one as soon as I can afford it.

When my 96 was 100% stock auto base model 3 years ago, it was comfortable! Even at 115 MPH!

Well I don't know about the s13 but I do know about back problems. I had spinal surgery last, the 10th of this month will be a year to the day actually...

I had my s14 before the surgery and still love it even after. I have had lots of cars, some more comfortable but not as fun to drive... That being said I just drove up to NC from FL and back with no real problem. That was 7-8 Hours of straight driving, only pausing for gas once or twice. I have to say that was much much much more comfortable than my mothers "luxury" Volvo that I can only stand 30 minutes of driving before my back is screaming at my brain.

Inside panels rattled when I drove. I hated that, so I payed close attention to what was vibrating and insulated where they came into contact with each other. It took months to hunt each spot down but now it has very little rattle to it. If you take your time you can get it at least muted to a degree and make your drive much less harsh. Remember your car is going to rattle and vibrate some, it is how many years old now?

The guys here have pretty much outlined it. If you have stuff rattling in the car, you won't get it quiet until you find what is rattling and either re-tighten it or put some sort of cushion in between the pieces that are touching.

About the seat comfort, get some S14 seats, they have some real bolsters to them and are very comfortable to drive in.

The engine being noisy? It's a 13-14 year old engine what do you expect? Take a good look through it and fix whatever is rattling. The SR motors are shakers by nature so that aspect won't go away very easily. I suggest getting some new motor and transmission mounts, replace your suspension bushings, balance your wheels, get a good alignment, that way you are sure that whatever is causing the noise isn't from the suspension, wheels or engine.

The wind noise can be reduced by replacing your factory sound deadening but it will never really go away.

Again, S13's are old cars, the components were tightened down up to 20 years ago, you need to take a good look and make sure everything is tight and properly seated, if it's not, fix it. Reducing noise and rattling isn't a quick or easy fix, but if you take your time and track down each problem, like one of the guys above said, you will find that your car will be much quieter in the future.

Rip out the interior and lay down Dynamat.

I forget about my cabin noise, mostly because I drive around listening to music and my car doesn't squeak..After my short shifter, I can sometimes hear my transmission. It's the only sound that somewhat annoys me.

I am dailying my S13 with a SR swap. It has stock engine mounts, but I just installed a trans mount that I filled with polyurethane and I have very little noise. Car also has a TIG welded differential and sits pretty low on Megan coilovers, I have them all the way soft for driving on the street though. What kills me is the ****ing stock SE seats. My gf actually seems comfortable in the car. I guess I am more tolerable because I dailyied my other drift car which was a gutted widebody hatch with a NA KA, welded diff, same filled transmount, 6 puck clutch (the one in the new car is stiffer though), and no sound deadening. That thing was just retarded. However the reclinable race buckets were a lot more comforable.

I do own a 01 Pathfinder with heated leather seat though. Seats still bother my back, injured it bad a while back, but then I can just flip on the heat and it all goes away.
