There we are. Yes, that's it. Any sources on wiring diagrams or are those also available in the FSM?

IMO, the parking light isn't strong enough in the day time to act as a DRL unless you put some IMPRESSIVE LED's in them. I have amber LED's in mine and you can't see them half a mile away like you can my headlights.

That is a good point. My plan is to upgrade to bright white LED if I can make it work easy enough. The ones on my other cars seem bright enough, but their lights are also a little bit bigger. Definitely appreciate the input/opinion. Thanks

To my Canadian friends, I understand your intention. And I know the headlight as the DRL seems bright when you look at it, but is it possible that's just because it's a HID bulb?
I had a Lexus and the low beams would be on as the DRLs, but it was only at like 35% power. Very noticeable on a regular bulb, and I'm not sure if the M just fires the low beams at 100% or reduced wattage as well.

Probably full voltage. I think my mom's Subaru does the same thing...runs the halogens at like 70%.

I compared them, and it appears to be full brightness at all times in either the DRL mode or turning the stalk.

Whats stupid is with Canadian model, low beams are on all the time as DRLs but we can still adjust light sensitivity in comfort settings. Why would it let you adjust that if the headlights are on all the time anyways?

Exterior lights are always on but the interior backlights and gauges dimming are controlled via light sensor still. There is no easy way to disable the DRLs. If you remove the DRL relay under the hood the rear tail lights will not work when headlights are turned on. Cnd cars have taillights/liscense/parking lights on all the time whenever car is started.

I think using the low beam HIDs adds to the look of the car. I like it better than the yellow DRLs. The prototype for the M had halogen bulbs in the parking light location and imo it gives the car a cheap look.

All of Europe requires DRL's as they have proven to reduce accidents. Turning them off is next to criminal.

from the US owner's manual...

It is generally desirable not to turn off
the headlights for short intervals (for
example, when the vehicle stops at a
traffic signal). Even when the daytime
running lights are active (Canada only),
the xenon headlights do not turn on.

This way the life of the xenon headlights
is not reduced....pg 2-34

That seems like a mistake in the manual. Unless mine and OPs DRL module is malfunctioning in the same way, lol.

Ok, In my opinion that can't be right for the HID's to be on all the time. Have you talked to Infiniti or an infiniti dealer about this?

No, I haven't. I bought the car used and didn't think much of it, but it started to annoy me. Then I saw the OP ask the question and here we are. My dealer here has been quite clueless about other things, so I'm not sure they will be of much help.

It says right in the Owners Manual that this is how it will behave on the Canadian models. I doubt they will have much more to say other then that is how it was designed to work.

Since I first posted in this thread I bought a 2011 M56. Now I'm wearing the shoe and I know where it pinches... at least it did for a while.

For a US market car, my AUTO setting pretty much worked like the ON switch. Which means, even in bright sunlight, with the headlight switch in AUTO, the headlight still came on.
I checked the front and the HID was on full power, I played with the sensitivity settings and that didn't change much.
Tried the high beam and that came on too, turning off the fog light as expected. Again, which told me the lights on definitely weren't driving lights.

So I turned off the fog light, and BAM! Everything is back to normal.
I usually like to have those set to ON so that I get some low ground clearance whenever the headlights come on.
I haven't had a chance to go cover to cover on the M56 owners manual yet, but I hoped having owned enough Infinitis I'd be able to get the vehicle on and off the road safely... but I suppose having the fog light switch to ON is a sort of bypass of the dusk sensor and just behaves as if the headlight stalk has been turned on.

Happy motoring :shifter:

However, you'd be surprised how many idiots I see driving with just their DRLs (Subaru's are known for this - the DRL's only go off if the parking brake is engaged) at night with their actual lights not on. I was blinking at this one lady on Sunday who was in a newer Pathfinder I believe because her DRL's were on but none of her rear lights were on. How do you not notice your actual lights aren't on at night? Doesn't the dash go dark until you turn them on?

I finally passed her and turned my lights on/off quick and she just waved at me like a moron.
Since my post last year, I've seen this same situation play out like 20 more times, as recently as last week. People are CLUELESS. They see a little light from the front of their car and think their lights are on only that it's actually their DRL's and the back of their car is COMPLETELY DARK.

It actually infuriates me and I can't help but try to pull along side and help these people make it home in one piece so I start honking, blinking lights, yelling with the window down. Most people look at ME like I'M the idiot...ugh. These are the kinds of people that need products on labels otherwise they'd probably hurt themselves...
