Fabricated everything myself. I needed the MAF input for the turbo/BOV and the MAF to throttle body tube I blew a crack in it from boost pressure so I had to replace that one.

There are only two vacuum lines in that section and they are tapped into the silicone coupler near the MAF (you can see in the photo) and the 1" tube in the bottom of the small section between the MAF and throttle body needed to be connected.

You can see all the tubes that need to be reconnected in this photo

Am I the only person who's actually trying to help this person get the information he wants regardless of what the rest of you want or think this person should do.

For crying out loud, if you have no useful input to the thread go away, it's really getting ridiculous.

Sorry Evan, don't judge us all by the actions of the few....

I'm actually interested in finding out how to do this. I'd really like to see a picture of Greg's setup. If it really gives the gains in acceleration, I don't see any reason not to do it. Even if it only changes the sound of the engine, I'm game. Did Greg ever post pictures of his mod? The way he described it in the thread made it sound really easy.

I'm planning on changing around my intake setup as well but am thinking about just doing a custom "box" for a cone filter to sit in and utilize the stock cold air inlet.

If I do the fender thing though that would allow me to remove the stock cold air inlet possible allowing more air to the condenser and radiator.

Please post pictures/write-up of it. I'd really like to see this being done and being able to see the steps involved.

Anyone going to a "cone" or other non-standard paper OEM type air filter, please post your used oil analysis to show you are not accelerating engine wear due to increased silicon {dirt} getting thru the fancy filter!

Where I locate my auxiliary ATF cooler because of protection from debris.

Originally it was for the Active Fluid cooler.

Probably going with the AEM dry filter so it should filter quite well... according to their marketing.

Will find out... though, having a 200k+ mile engine I'm not too worried about it.

3.5" diameter. I got the stainless from Verocious Motorsports, an ebay seller. I also got the silicone couplers from them. I got a lot of stuff from them for my turbo project. I highly recommend them. I bought a straight section and several U bends in stainless 3.5" from them to use for making CAI's and various projects. You could make both pieces I did with one 3.5" U-bend and some 1" tubing. The 1" stuff I use at work so I had it around. You could probably find some aluminum tubing. I went with stainless because that's what I made my MAF flanges out of and wanted to use like metals so just went that route. You can't weld aluminum to stainless so that was out for most of it anyway.

It's tough to see but when you remove the airbox you'll see the hole going through to behind the headlights. This would also be a great place to get cold air.

I've got an OEM airtube from a base Q and a shorter air tube from a Qt if you want to try and fit up an inlet path without the expense of fabbing the SS tube from scratch. Your call.

Here is the MAF adapter I'm working on right now. Should have the part welded up this weekend. This one just has a 3.5" x 2" tube on it so the owner can connect to it and route their own tube wherever they want.

damn I wish I had seen those b4 I finished mine...

I ended up making a flange out of peices of a plastic dryer duct, and connected a 5" AEM CAI with a 4"-5" rubber drain connector & clamps from home depot..beats payin 35$+shipping for HTS equipment.

ALL in all I'd say the car preforms a lil better, and HITman was rightthe acceleration is more responsive, and it sounds like a mean m- fo.

See the pics here http://www.cardomain.com/id/evanarc

thanks to hitman, qsiguy & evrybody 4 the ideas

Pics are a little small. I can't believe you put a bra on your Q. I've never seen that done to a Q before. Wow.

The intake looks good from what I can see. It looks nice.

I'm not going to make all adapters like this at once. I have a few more flange adapters cut out but I will custom make to order. Not everyone want's the same thing.

Evan, you must find an acceptable (for you) way to get the air filter out of the engine bay. I had mine like that for a while before I made the custom turn down one (pre turbo days) that went under the fender behind the bumper. I could tell a HUGE difference when the engine bay was cold vs. when it got hot under there. Subsantial decrease in horsepower. You'll notice it more in the summer time. If that's not a big concern that's your call. It does sound cool doesn't it?! I love how you can cruise around in stealth mode and how it roars to life when you punch it! (of course I like the turbo more, lol)

thanks I guess, thats just how I rollI detailed the front myself before christmas and decided 2 get the bra 4 extra coverage. I got the weatherproff winter cover 2.

More pics/ different concepts soon to come

I still got a bunch of stainless tubing to work into the mix, im thinkin the easiest way is to take air from where the wires for the driverside marker lamp goes.

it feels good4now, the air filter i bought is supposed to be high endurance heat resistant

The reason is knowledgeable car owners avoid them like the plague as trapped dirt from dust and rain make a fine polishing compound that grinds into the paint where the bra touches it.

Clear 3M type bras are the way to go the last ten years. Best if your paint is perfect, as in brand new or just filled, sanded and resprayed.

Good to know. I'll definitely add that to my list after getting the repaint.

Finished the MAF adapter I was making. Looks like these will be $30 plus freight if anyone wants one. Not the cheapest MAF adapter but since these are low run custom made ones that's the best I can do for now. Doubt I'll ever do enough to bring the price down. Tig welded 304 stainless steel.

70 grit glass bead finish

Mild polish on the buffer

I'm interested in one. Can use it either on the Q or the Z.
