I am going to try to find out where my Q is going to be auctioned at (wrecked Sept 24 - 6 point ~150# buck) so I can buy it back and part it out....I installed Silverstars in the Fog lights and High Beams for the car, the driving lights being Xenon HIDs.

If anyone has any advice on how I can find out where the car will be auctioned at, and how to go about getting it back for pennies on the dollar (hopefully) please let me know - Car has an 8 day old A/C compressor and 8 day old tie rods, plus the interior is nearly flawless, so parting it out makes good sense to me...

I know a lot of your guys would want at least some of the parts, and I am not out to rape people - If I pay $500 for the car then I can easily sell parts cheaply - the only problem being that I am probably not going to be able to actually take these parts off myself, so I need to consider where to house the auto as well as how I can remove said parts....

The insurance company should be able to tell you who they sold the car to. Give your company a call.

4 pt buck at a buck98? your's was bigger - mine was just flashier.

I have the pics in my phone and I have almost completed rebuilding my WinXP box (as I try to design a new one to play on) so I'll have the wreck pics on here in a week or so. For the weak of heart, they are not pretty - although I still cannot figure out why my airbags never went off, cause he wasn't all that tall either, and I hit him doing 55 officially (closer to 64 unofficially, as I had just set my cruise to 64 and that may be one of the reasons I never saw the bastard...)

Oh, and I stalled for time because they valued my car at only $8200, and I said BS, cause when I bought it I valued it at well over $12K private because of the condition....but they would not accept that my car was in much better condition than the 'average' '99 Q45t with that many miles - so I took my tires off (along with the wheels) and put them on my Maxima. Let them eat crow.

Did they not give you the option of re-purchasing the car for the salvage value? My "Q1" was made available to me for about $400 or $500 - which was the price they were going to get for her to from the salvage yard.In some states I think they're even required to give you the first right of refusal. Like lino said, that should at least tell you who has the car...

On my Maxima, I went back and the dealership let me "say goodbye" to her for a few hours in the impound lot as I removed my CD Changer, Alarm, etc... I could have pulled the engine and they wouldn't have noticed or cared. Sadly, I didn't realize they were selling her to a junk yard that specialized in "rebuildable" cars. I found out a few months later that the car was driving around again somewhere up in Greenville. Let's just say I wasn't gentle as i clipped my alarm and audio stuff out of the maze of wires under the dash. I pity the poor guy who had to figure out how to splice all of that stuff back together.

If they're not paying you extra for your add-ons, I wouldn't feel bad about even slipping the guy at the impound lot a $20 for a couple of quality hours with her before they tow it off...

Almost 200 people are killed every year in the USA by deer.

And sheesh, squeefoo, that looks like it was a nasty tumble - you gotta avoid that in the future. Wow. Hope you're not too beat up.

Copart is corrupt and they are pure EVIL!!

Reason 1:copart in Mechanicsville, VA right outside of Richmond has been running it's auction without it's auction's License for months now.

Reason 2:Copart lets you bid against yourself. Most of this happens by accident when you are online bidding, so they make more money by either your mistake or by their on-line bidding software. No where else can you bid against yourself "by accident" or intentionaly. Sometimes their software doesn't let you know when you are the high bidder so you keep bidding when you have already outbid everyone.

Reason 3:You cannot reason with them and I know Brian from their corporate office in CA very well at this point and can't say they try in any way to help those caught in their very well laid web of deceit and illegal auctions at the Mechanicsville, Va Location.

My buddy got caught in their trap and they would not help at all, so he turned them in for not having a licensed auction(He's handicap with a direct line to some governmental agencies including to both NC state senators who have been in touch with him about this matter and have contacted the Attorney General). Let's see what happens to the crooks now......Bastards.

Now, THAT sounds like the best possible outcome from a bad situation, particularly if you plan on replacing the wrecked Q with another one of similar vintage - Pull the usual high-failure-rate parts for spares (along with any custom-installed accessories), and part the rest out.

(Note to self: Ask my insurance agent about this...)

I am talking to them firs thing in the morning, right before my Ophthalmologist appointment.

If I can get it that cheaply I will flip out - I can keep a lot more that I didn't have time to get before, including speakers and head unit (The Max has an ancient AM/FM/Cassette unit and shot speakers) and definitely part out some of the things not destroyed by the accident - like (hopefully) the 8 day old tie rods!

OK, so I have the car - I can detail what has been done but I think body damage pics are in order first:

I have more pics, but they show the car's overall good condition. Anyhoo, I am wondering if selling this thing minus the 17" rim (15" Maxima rims on it now) would fetch me anything over $2000, because I myself cannot part it out because of a lack of time and a lack of mechanical skills.

Here are the rest of the pics I took the same day showing the rest of the condition of the car:

OK,with all the pics I think folks might actually be missing the query:

Is anyone interested in the car as it is now (not as in pics, but as it is now - I will detail everything and post new pics when I get them if need be) as a car for parts, and if so how much?

Radiator, yes,A/c doubt it -but the batter was destroyed also, so I have no way of attempting to power it on to see if the rest of the engine components are working.

The problem is that I cannot do any work on it, and body shops around here are all saying around 8 grand - and that is what the insurance company is giving me in the first place.

I really don't want to let it go, and if I could get them damned thing fixed for under 4 grand I would do it in a heartbeat - I am a sucker for the y33s.

Edit - added the following:

Oh, also, the A/C compressor and tie rods were put on *8* days before teh wreck occurred - Sept 16th I had them installed and Sept 24 the car was wrecked.

You should hold on to the car and put it together slowly. I really think that car could be driving againf for under $2500. Think about it. Find a body guy to work on it on the side if you have to. Make connections and find used parts for it. White is even a good color to make bad bodywork look good.

How many miles?

SAVE THE Q!!!! You know you won't regret it.

Ummm, mileage just passed 164K - I put 27K in 9 months.

Honestly, I don't know about the core support, but I am *guessing* that I did not damage that as much - assuming that you mean suspension and chassis here.

Not being a mechanic, and additionally not knowing where I can store the car for any length of time to work on it slowly, I am trying to see what others would pay for it if I were to buy it back from the Insurance company - I know *someone* can use the parts, hell, one guy here needs 2 driver's side doors for his black '99 ISTR...

If I get it back I will easily sell for 2K - that will be minus rim though, because I did a rim swap with my '92 Maxima. Might also be minus audio equipment, as I haven't decided if I will yank that and put it in the Max or not - Audio install / de-install I can do, but other mechanical stuff I cannot - for lack of knowledge more than anything, really.

Yeah surprisingly so - but then again, the airbags never went off, so the impact was high - and it was a rather tall buck.

IAA (Insurance auto auctions) might sell it for you. Google them and inquire about it.

Thanks for the redman - I will look into it - if no one wants it as a project buy / there is no interest in parts I may auction it off myself then.

That has just become option #3 for me.

What a nice car. Sorry to see the damage and feel your pain. Keep the car man and fix it slowly.
