speaking of proper/better lighting...anyone seen WRC-style round hellas mounted on the front of the hood? maybe its just me, but a subtle body-colored brush guard and 2 (OR 4) hellas might look right nice...if the 240 was dirt covered with baja T/A's, i mean. just an idea. and not something i would ever do to my car. or suggest you do to yours. unless you have a spare. and if you do...i want it. k thanks.

you might need more then a rotary knob.. im goin to look into a stepper motor and dial that way i can control height and speed .

i was thinking about making my own flush mount lights (if you can fiberglass it would be easy, maybe i could form carbon fiber. . . ) and put the hella 90mm lights in there. the hella lights are the ones you always see on lemans cars and stuff. they're like the best you can buy. what do ya'll think?

Thats what i was going to do, but then someone brought up the idea of a stepper motor. what is a stepper motor and where can i get one?

haha...

i think ur idea is the best way to do it...a rotary switch might be good...but i just have to say...ur pretty awesome for thinking that **** up..spending 5 bucks instead of 500 on sweet headlights

stepper motors have a certain number of turn sections...i don't know how to describe it...so for example...it could have 500 steps per complete rotation, so you can set it to go 256 steps or whaever to control how far it turns...does that make sense?

yeah you can set it make 230 steps on say a 500 step rotation motor right ? to reduce move ment by small incriments .. i know we used them in a laser show system we built to help make elaborate designs using only some switches and dials .... which i was more educated in electronics

how big are those things? I dont want to make something elaborate, i want to keep things simple. I'll try the rotary knob tomorrow after i get out of school and see how that turns out. I'll post up results here.

i just wired in my sleepy eye conversion. it kicks the llamas a$$. anyways i did it a little different. i used a momentary on/off button. this effectively does what a stepper motor does but for two dollars. i took pictures of the whole operation, if anyone wants to see. let me know. the button let me set the lights exactly where i want them. its pretty cool

here is the set up. i drilled a hole in the dummy button under my light button. i used banana clips to make the whole thing easy to remove.

i got the switch at radio shack. part # 2750609 pk2 spst push sw. the banana clips were already on hand. there might be a better way to make it removable, but these were free.

here it is with everything sodered (sp) together and the banana clips together. they work just like rca jacks. the dummy button took a lot of work to fit the button inside, but nothing a pair of needle nose pliers wont fix.

the most important thing is getting the right switch. you need a momentary on switch. that way the current flows just when the button is depressed. but if you use that part number you should have no problem. we almost had the whole thing sodered together only to find out our first switch was momentary off, doh. anyway here is the end result.

yeah i know they are uneven, but that is just on my car because of a slightly dented fender. dont make fun of the mono wiper, the story of why pisses me off.

good luck, any other questions let me know.
