Lately, my car's idle was idling like sh1t... especially at stop lights... my rpm kept running up and down...
anyways, I knew it was the mafs... so I cleaned it and heres my write-up.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------tools needed to clean mafs:~10mm socket wrench~something sharp~ screw driver~ Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner (depicted below).
length of time: about 15 minutes.
make sure its the mafs cleaner and not a carb cleaner... the carb cleaners may be too strong for the sensors that they may ruin it.
step 1: Locate your mafs. Unless your running a blow-by-mafs set-up, most likely your mafs is gonna be located on the hot side of your engine bay (driverside). Ideally, you should plug the unattended piping with something like a towel or something... you don't wanna accidentally have something fall in there and get it sucked in...
step 2: With a screwdriver, or whatever size socket wrench it takes to loosen the couplings, loosen the coupling holding the mafs to your intake piping.
step 3: Locate the pigtail of the mafs. With a sharp object find your way through the little groves to take the little clip out. Or with pliers, you can just pull them out. Be careful not to damage the clip or lose it.
step 4: Take the mafs out. With your 10mm socket wrench or screwdriver, remove the 4 screws holding the filter on there.
step 5: Locate the 2 screws on the top of the mafs that hold the sensor in. Unscrew it to remove the sensor. Be very careful not to touch the sensors or get anything on them.
step 6: After removing the sensor, spray the sensor and the mafs body with the mafs cleaner. Similar to that of carb and brake cleaner, the fluid evaporates fairly quick.
After allowing it to dry, carefully place the sensors back into the mafs body and tighten the screws. DONE.

Changing the HKS filter.
Supplies needed: A new filter, duh!
As you can see, my filter's frekkin dirty. haha... it used to be yellow!
Step 1: Unscrew the knob in the middle of the filter, and remove the top portion of the filter.
Step 2: Open your new filter. The filter size should be 200.
Step 3: Obviously, remove your old filter, and add the new one in. There are 2 sides to the filter, the fine side and the coarse side. Make sure the fine side is face down facing the mafs.
heres a pic of the fine side
heres a pic of the coarse side. This side will be facing outward (being exposed to the air)
step 4: After you push the new filter in... screw the knob back on and put it all back together in reverse order of taking everything apart. If you plugged your intake piping with a towel or something, please remember to take it out before putting the mafs back on, lol.
now start your car, and enjoy a smooth, cleaner idle.
