I was reading up on the Versa and it’s three trim levels and it got me thinking.. I’ve got the 1.8 S just the base model with a manual transmission manual windows/locks..etc

I assume these things are prewired for certain options.. e.g. power locks, windows..etc so if I went back to the dealership they could add these options back on? If am on the wrong track here please let me know! The power option isn’t really what I’m interested in well maybe in a few months if it was possible.

Believe it or not what I’m interested in is, is the glove box wired for the internal light and if so what would I need to do to add it. It’d be nice to have a small light in there. I’m thinking if all I need to do is pull a panel and buy a panel to snap in with the light attached I wouldn’t mind doing that. Another question is.. I’ve read the SL are prewired for rear bass are the S also prewired? I’ve seen the cost of the Nissan speaker so I couldn’t go that route unless I found one for cheap on ebay or from a junk yard. Just another thought I’m more than happy with the stock speakers right now and more than happy with the car as is!

Thanks!

'07-09 S trim w/ power pkg are prewired, SL's are prewired.

With the '10-11, SL's already have foglights so you don't need to buy a set. I believe the S trim is prewired w/ the Power Plus Pkg offered on 2010 Versas. Don't quote me on that.

Hope that helps!

Your base S will not have the wires. Manual windows and locks means no pre-wire(non-power package). The good news is that your car has the solenoids for power locks already. I added a Viper alarm to the factory locks, works great!

The Fog light option for OEM is expensive. The aftermarket seems to have the same quality and is 1/3 the price. As for the glove box that should be very easy. Good luck

Steed77 My wife wants me to add the power lock to my base S 09 Versa. I just want to be able to use a keyless flob to unlock and lock the doors. How did you go about doing this to you car in detail?

Install the Viper Alarm will give you that option, either yourself or get a pro to do it.

I got a professional alarm installer to quote me on my base 2009 Versa S without the power locks. He said that some Versas have the actuators and some don't. He'll have to see mine. If mine has the actuators built in already, he said that he can install an alarm with the keyless entry for around $500. That's $120 for the alarm, and $75 per door labor cost. Is this price fair?

I know Best Buy has a keyless entry made by Viper for $120 with installation included. But thats if your Versa already have the actuators in the door. Thats the route I plan on going. I see no point of a alarm system because it does not make you car insurance any cheaper. And does anybody pay any car any attention when a alarm goes off anymore?

Here in Canada it does make a difference if you have an alarm drops the insurance a bit.

Still the US has way cheaper rates for insurance.

That is crazy.. My Viper was ~200 bucks. The versa HAS actuators.... it's part of the lock/latch in the door. Run 2 wires (speaker wire) to the rear doors, the front doors will require 3 wires. I had installed the small speaker leads and just pushed them on the pins.

It's the smaller of the ends shown.

Thanks for the inputs. I think I'll go the Best Buy Viper keyless entry w/o alarm route. Don't really need alarm, just the convenience of opening doors and hatch. If that's not available, I might install it myself.

Bad news, I just took my versa s to the best buy to install the keyless entry, since my car had no power options. The guy at best buy said he couldn't install it without ordering the extra parts needed for it. My car has the actuators, but not the wiring to hook everything up. So with the initial 139.99, it was gonna be another $180.00 for each set of doors for a total of $499.99. So I turned it down and got my money back for the viper kit. Guess I'll be living with no keyless entry with the car that has no power door locks. He did say that the car was prewired for power windows though, lol.

Thanks for the update. I was going to go to Best Buy this week but your bad news saved me from the trip. I guess the $500 quote I got was fair because that comes with an alarm already. But, I would like to try to install it myself.

Steed77, could you let us know which wires went to which terminal post in the front/rear door actuators?

I know, they get better deals on everything it seems

But I did get a discount for buying snow tires. Last year was the first year that they reduced it for having snow tires Pretty nice of them to finally do that !!!

My brother did the install himself on my dad's sunfire. He bought the power door lock kit off ebay, and spent an entire day but accomplished it. The car has no power options in it. No power windows, no a/c, no power locks. Just a base Sunfire that my dad bought as a commuter car back in 2001. He installed the alarm and power door locks himself. You just have to have the patience to do it and maybe a friend to help you with the install; but it can be done!

The front doors use 3 wires for lock and unlock.

Front.... Top pin is lock, 2nd pin down is common, 3rd pin is unlock. ( I may have the actual pin locations wrong, but when you open the door up you will see, there are only 5 pins. The other 2 are used for trunk been a while since i was in the door.

Rear.. only has 2 pins... it's called a reverse polarity connection. top and bottom are used for lock and unlock. so you flip the wires to get it to lock and unlock.

These are all very common practices for alarm installers... the nice thing is that because the actuators are in our cars, it's just a simple wire run job.

Thanks!!!!

I believe then, that when I connect everything to the remote module, if I manually lock any of the front doors, then all should be close? I just guess.. :ohno:

Individually locking any of the doors with the lock mechanism on the door shouldn't lock them all. It should only lock them all if you use the remote control.

I know this may well be a stupid question but, has anyone asked a dealer the cost to install the power option? I'm scared to see what the price would be! lol

Seriously, did they also want your first born? shirt off your back, fillings from your teeth as well! lol That's some serious cash to run some wire.

Is there anywhere out there we can buy the connections and get a wiring diagram or any direction on how to correctly runt the wire? I think I might take a stab at this myself when it cools down here. I'd be more than happy if all doors unlocked when I unlock the drivers side door.
