This thread came out to be kinda funny...But to kinda repeat what everyone said, you get a motor for 1400, waterpump, intake, exhaust, mounts( but if u use the crossmember you save around 2-300 bucks at times), ect ect, i think if you do everything yourself you can do it for under 3k, with installation it should be under 4500...... I am not getting into the displacement--replacement today....RBs are great, some are higher than others, if you have a nice bank roll no matter what ya get it will still have a great turn out......

Nah, I wouldn't say that. I have a 20 and a sall pen15.

I like my 20 for many reasons, the first being that it's cheaper come tax time in April. The other, it's a good over all motor, and there are a lot of places here that cater to the 20. I see a hell of a lot more tuned 20's in 32's than I see 25's in 33's. And most of the 20's I have seen around here will do significant damage to most of the other cars on the roads.

I won't knock the 25 either though. Buddy of mine had a C34 Laurel with a 25 putting down some pretty serious power. His last dyno was somewhere in the neighborhood of 450-500. The only major upgrade he had done was an bigger turbo. (Don't ask which, cause I don't know. Just know that it was an HKS unit.)

Along with that, 550 injectors, GT-R fuel pump, FPR to name a few things. I don't know what his whole set up was, but I know it was a pretty large list.

These 500+ online heroes are exactly who the comment is aimed at. Anything above 400hp is a serious project so why f- around pretenting 500hp is going to be enough, spend the coin to get there, then realizing it is not and spending even more trying to push past the motors limitations rather than admitting you should have laid out more in the beginning for the 26?

Sorry man, I have driven an R32 GTS-T with an RB25 and an R32 GTS-T with an RB26, It is NOTHING alike, not even in the neighborhood The 25 exhibits more torque than the RB20 as it should but pound for pound, step for step, dollar for dollar, The difference between the RB25 over the 20 is far less than the 26 over the 25.

I speak for my local area in Japan, I have been away from the states for years, I cannot argue one way or the other on that.

It's a logical progression, get the design kinks worked out and then start climbing up in displacement. They did the same thing with all the engines. They stopped making the FJ20 even longer before the RB25 came out than the RB20, which side of that fight do you want to stand on? It's just a little 2-liter, it should be no problem to wipe up the street with it, right?

They ditched the CA18 in favor of the SR20. That must mean the SR20 is better according to that logic. It isn't so that kind of shoots that theory to hell. They make a VQ35 now, everybody rip out your VQ30s to be current! Too simplistic man, it doesn't prove a thing that they migrated to the 25 other than it's bigger not necessarily better beyond that.

The point is just because the motor is bigger or displaced an older design is not enough reason to choose it over the other or mean the preceding or smaller engine was replaced because it is inferior. I stand by what I say. If high 300/low 400 is all you want the 20 is the way to go. If you are wanting serious power skip the 25 altogether and go 26. Too many guys with 1000hp dreams and 200hp budgets, I just have no humor for it. People should be realistic with their goals and go with what fills their needs the best, not what the flavor of the month is.For me, a solid 400hp would do just fine. I notice most people who want these huge power numbers are normally driving something with at least half, sometimes less power than whatever their goal is at the time. The extra money thrown at the 25 over the 20 for 500 more ccs is a waste. Now that transmission on the other hand, definate must have baby, the RB20 one sucks!
dude you breakdancing? got any vids?

I know the RB20 is a good engine, if you only want 350~ its perfect but there are so many people who swap it in just because its a skyline engine dawg! they dont realize its not a SR and theres alot attached to owning a RB that you have to deal with (parts, info, etc)

i bash on the RB20 because I try to weed out those idiots. If you have a GOAL and you choose an engine to meet that goal, great but most people dont. they just go "oh **** son its a skyline engine" I love giving the RB20 guys **** because i can, its all in the name of fun to me. i dont care WHAT engine you have in your car so long as you have fun with it (show cars are gay )

I don't agree with the statement on skipping the RB25 all together. i honestly believe that a 400-500whp Rb25 will be far more reliable than a RB20 (stock internals for both) and cost SIGNIFICANTLY less than a STOCK RB26 swap. it may only be more reliable for the simple fact odds are a RB25 is going to be a much newer engine, that has spent far less time sitting in a junkyard, but thats a crap shoot and its very hard to prove.

some of you guys take this **** too seriously. (not you, making a general statement)

Jk, but seriously... Kamin, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I'm sick of hearing you bash on the rb20.. I'm glad Themadscientist beat me to defending it because I couldnt have put it better myself. I'm also impressed someone finally commented on the great value of the rb20. Let us not forget that the rb20 is just as good of a motor as the rest of the RB series motors in its own way... even cost! Our moderator of all people should know that.

Yeah, so stop being such a negative Nancy, Kamin, unless you want everyone to call you Nancy from now on.
1) TMS is a mod

2) you don't like my opinion? tough s***. its my opinion. you can have your own too, thats the way it works.

3) you call me nancy you wont be a member here much longer.

see my reply to TMS above this and especially read the last line and the part about its all fun and i love giving rb20 owners a hard time with their inferior engine (see that, its a joke).

Yeah but who will be laughing when the SR smokes your RB? Dont think that just cause you have an RB your car is gonna smoke all the SR's, be prepared to get some modifications, meaning $$. Unless your talking about shariks car, his is balls slow.

Nancy?I am not even touching that one. All the RBs are great engines, they just have different flavors. This is not like the great KA/SR/CA/RB debate where people with completely different motors try to slam the others. All RBs are good motors and as long as you do your research, know what to expect and what you are getting into with each model as far as the swap and pick the one that honestly meets your needs you will be happy. If you pick an SR, well good luck to you! Sorry I couldn't help myself

what do you want to do for a living?

basically it boils down to if you want to work in a dealership, UTI is a good stepping stone but unnecessary.

if you want to work in the performance field, its a complete waste of time and money. i hear tuition is 28k now? you can go to an engineering school for that much money.
