I'm shopping for a 240sx, and, before I pick one up and start searching for an appropriate sr20, I'm wondering how much is normal to pay for an early 90's 240 (90-92)

in other words, how much did you pay, and in what condition was it when you bought it?

ok, before I go to sleep (et, kinda late, err...early, whatever), I've found a couple 89-91 240's at around 1k, is this a decent price? I know that I shouldn't expect much, but what is your experience?

I got my base model 89 last August for $1500, running but blown head gasket, and some nice rims. I got ripped off, but pickings were slim at the time. Oh well.

I paid $2,500 cash for my pristine '92 base model S13. No options, craptastic stereo, but only 67,000 original miles, never wrecked, included all records, etc. Not a ding, dent, or tear anywhere on the car except one on the hatchlid.

Worth it to me - I didn't want to have worries about structural integrity or hidden problems. I could've bought one for $900, but it needed lots of body work, I'm sure it had been wrecked (at least once), and the interior was worse than the exterior.

Well I paid a little bit TOO low for mine when I got it. It was an 89' SE with 150k miles on it. $400!!! It sucked, bit the dust the next day lol. It had a cracked A-Frame in the rear section, no a/c, no radio, speedometer was broken, windows didnt work, sunroof that didnt work, leaks, missing shift knob, worn clutch, etc the list goes on!

The cheapest 240 I know any has bought was a friend of mine. He bought a good running, mint condition 92 coupe, for $200(least thats what he told me)!!! I was like OMG, the reason he got it so cheap was the owner had some court fines coming up and didn't have any money to pay and he did not want to goto jail.

I bought my 240 for $1800, 89 5spd, 85k miles at the time, perfect condition.

200 bucks? freakin' awesome! I've found quite a few in my area (north carolina) around 1k, for the s13, not bad. I've found a 94 or 95for 3k, and like the body style alot better, but the 2k diff. puts me much closer to my engine swap goal, and, anyway, I'm a college student that doesn't feel like getting a loan, and 1k makes that possible.

anyway, I'd like to add another question, so that I don't have to make another thread, if at all possible: what is the difference between the se and regular coupe/fastback models? I looked at autotrader.com's in-house model library, and they showed a significant amount of weight difference (with the se being heavier), without any engine differences. Where is the difference, and which model did you buy/ would you recommend getting?

Before I get flamed- I searched, and am wondering whether the difference between the models is the same for the 89-91 model years as for later.

The SE's come with more options meaning more weight. Also the SE comes with the luxury of LIMITED SLIP differential.

they wanted me to pay $1,500 for my 89 sx but i got them down to $1,200. it only has 66,000 miles so i guess i did alright considering it had no clutch, a dented trunk lid, blown ring, glove box is broken, and i cant unlock it from the drivers side.

i paid 300 for my gray 89 hatchback. EXcellent condition and ran great but suddenly died on me. Its a fuse or something stupid. can't wait to get that running again, it's gonna be the daily driver.

I paid 500 for my maroon 89 coupe ( represent 89 maroon coupes!!!) it's a base model, and was in absolutely mint condition minus very very minor door dings on her, and a slightly cracked windshield. it's been completely stripped now. I am absolutely dying to finish the motor swap on it, because it will be a head turner. Even in tampa where theres damn near 100 documented sr swaps, this one will still turn everyones heads and make them be like holy **** when it pulls up to the staging lanes ;-)

I have a line on another 240sx for 700. i may or may not pick it up, i don't have room for them all!!! I still need to get rid of the Z31 hehehe!!

My first 240sx cost me 2200. It was a red SOHC 90 SE. OK miles.

Once I bought it one of my friends fell in love with it and bought himself one for 2800. Its a grey 89. No body damage, but high miles.

Well, my friend ended blowing his head gasket, and I bought it from him for 500 bucks. I sold mine for 1500 and used the money to start my project.

As a side note: The guy I sold the car to test "drove" it by racing his friends little Civic. As soon as he saw how much it wooped the little Honda, it was sold.

I found the three 240's at or around 1k on autotrader, running a 300 mile search. I don't want to drive that far just to check out a car, but I'll do whatever it takes.

To get one less than that you'll just have to look harder, and make alot of friends who know people. Of course, most of the times that I hear someone say that they found a 240 or similar car for under 1k it's missing something, like a clutch, a body panel, or, one of those things that you could live without, like a motor. The 1k ones that I see at least claim to run well.

There is some argument.. my understanding is that LSD was part of a 'handling package' only aviailable on the SE. The debate is on what the 'handling package' included.. i.e. HICAS or not.
