yea but seriously.. i got a 1989 240sx coupe for only $700 the exterior (paint) is all oxidated.. the engine runs good, but stalls at low RPMs, the lights go up but dont go down, HUD speedo dont work, special trick to opening the glove compartment, no Radio.. AC works.. drives fine at rpms above 1000, o yea brakes squeek, rear shocks are busted.. when i hit a bump i start bouncing... uhh.. everythign else is fine.. o and it came wit a custom muffler, not a fart pipe, but like a muffler thats louder then stock. yea also got 75k miles.. but the speedo and Odo arent working.. and im not sure how long its been since they've been out. carfax's last record is 74k miles. that was like in 98.

Im takin it to a shop my homeboy gonna do a check on it, i wanna see if it got any major probs, all the ones i listed are just minor. If the check up doesnt show any major problems then ill get a paint job in december, and start modding from there.. spoiler, rims, lower first.. after that im going to work on performance mods.

u gotta look good while u drive :D

I got my 90 SE for 2550 originally 3200, with somewhere around 112K mi. It has some dings and some dents where someone pounded a bigger dent out behind the passenger side fender, all electronics; power locks, head light motors, window washers, shoulder strap, rear wiper, power mirrors, work fine. Except for the speedo... came with cheapy modern rims, okay tires, factory spoiler, moon/sun roof. But transmission leaks, and the chain USED to rattle.

I thought it was okay, coud've done better... still a good looking car.

yea the 240sx i bought for $650... thats a POS. my previous posts describe some of the problems i knew about, but i took it to my mechanic today to check it out, and he just flat out told me to get rid of the POS. He showed me how the auto transmission shifts up, but it doesnt auto maticly shift down to 1st when u stop, so there fore it stalls, and goes slow. He also checked the Speedomete problem (doesnt work, its one of them HUDs), and the lights (go up but dont go down) and he said that its a electrical problem. yea so now im the market for a better car... im not gonna go for the 240sx, prolly 300zx (no TT), or maybe even a domestic like camaro or Mustang.

Go for a 240, but use the money you save by not going for a camaro, mustang, or N/A 300zx to buy a better 240, with a standard. Also, get the thing looked at by a reliable mechanic BEFORE you buy it (this goes for every type of car), and if the trans has a prob. with it, just screw it, it's not worth the trouble unless it's an incredible steal.

Um, i paid $7500 for my 90 coupe. But it was almost 9 years ago. First car (and still only) car i ever took out a loan to buy. I got her in '94 with 75,000 miles on her, now shes sitting under the car cover waiting for custom forged JE pistons to arrive with 190,000 miles. Paint job is still like the day she came off the factory floor, and besides the normal wear on the drivers side bolster from getting in and out, the interior is IMMACULATE!

yea bro, you are totally right.. the insurance for camaros and mustangs is out of this world! and plus their domestic POS.. not reliable. 300zx insurance is pretty much the same as mustang and camaro, so **** that too. i think at this point im totally considering getting a s14 240.. right now im collecting money for it, and im definetly goign with my mechanic to check the car out when im ready. thanks for the advice.

Think about going for a s13. They aren't as attractive as the s14's in stock condition, but for the difference in prices you could probably drop in a sr20det.

I paid for around $6,000 for my 180sx almost three years ago. Completely stock except it had Kakimoto muffle. 180SX's generally go for around $4,000-$5,000 for a pretty nice one usually with an Aero Kit Wheels muffler. Oh yeah with an SR20DET. For anyone seriously considering or anyone who plans on living in Okinawa Japan.

damnit, the three or four really cheap s13's in my area that actually ran in my area were just sold off of autotrader within maybe four days of each other. Hmmm...honda ricers, I bet. Looks like I'll be paying 700 more, or waiting longer...

not bad, not great, but if it's in good condition that's a steal.

The 240 that I am in the process of buying is a 1990 Fastback that is in need of some minor "restoration" It needs a new drivers seat because the upholstery is total crap. There is a hole in the muffler, the shocks are blown, the springs are cut, the rims are scratched up and the body isn't all that great. It has a dent about the size of an open hand on the back drivers side panel. The guy also just broke the passenger door window on accident because he had the door open as he was backing out of a driveway and it got snagged on a branch and shattered.

However, the shifter feels nice and solid, the clutch engagement is good, the engine runs like a top and it doesn't vibrate or pull to one side when you are driving it at highway speeds.

I figure for a grand you can't really go wrong with this thing. Besides, the majority of the fun in working on cars is buying s junker and making it come to life and bask in glory.

That and the fact that it is RWD helps a lot too :D
