Hi guys,

Mine is 97 pathfinder klondike, it can run around 450 kilometers with full tank of gas. How about yours? Are there any problems with my car?

i get roughly 533kms doing the math on my 80L tank. I fill up every time, then i find kms since last fillup and divide by the amount of litres i put in, been getting 15L/100Km consecutively. Do you run until almost E? youd be surprised how far you can go with the light on haha check to see your doing the numbers right. I was getting 17L/100kms a few months ago but my car was idle alot to heat up for winter and my air filter was dirty. Maybe your spark plugs are due for a change? they play a good factor in fuel economy.

thanks, that is my thought as well. But according to the topic about spark plug in the forum, someone said changing them every 96000kms. Is that true?

I know few about do-it-yourself, is it easy to change spark plug by myself? what kind of tools do i need? If I find the present plugs fine, may I put them back?

Two things:

1. Pathy/QX4's have a 21.9 gallon (~83L) tank. When it hits E, you have about a 4 gallon (~15.2L) reserve. This is in case you are on extreme grades or not so smart about keeping it full, or whatever you want to say it is.

2. When the light comes on, you really should fill it up immediately if you want to have your fuel pump last any great amount of time. Fuel is the lubricant for the pump. When it's low, the pump has little lube.

yes, if you check the owners manual maintenance schedule, they should be changed every 96k kms. I hear its quite easy to change the spark plugs, I plan on doing it this summer with another forum member since mines at 107k kms. I Guess the #6 plug is the b*** to change, you need a special tool that the qx4's have, from what i hear the pathys dont have it. My biggest fear is a stuck plug, that ends up breaking in half twisting it out

15.2L reserve? I didnt know it was that much! so i can go to work an back on E hahahhaah jk thats just moronic. Its smart to fill up your tank, the less your at the pump the less vapour that escapes your tank (this is a factor in fuel economy) In the winter, dont let your tank go below half, it causes condensations creating corrosion in your fuel system. Also in the summer dont go below a quarter tank, its negative for your system as well. I know the less fuel you have on you, the less weight, therefore the less fuel you use, but really, is it worth it? Id rather have a long lasting car that costs me a little more on gas, than saving a dollar here n there putting your parts in jeopardy.

I went a little while WITHOUT tuning up my QX4 and boy did i kick myself in the @$$ when i saw what a difference it made in my gas mileage! I mean..i KNEW it was gonna make a difference...i just didn't know how much of a difference it would make!

Before i did my tune up, i was getting only 240 miles on a full tank.

I changed my oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs/wires, cleaned my K&N air filter, and replaced my distributor cap.

I filled up my tank and pushed out 320 miles before my gas light lit up!

and extra 80 miles may not seem like much--but with gas at $3.89/gallon....YOU do the math!

Moral of the story....MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE! hahaha

Lesson Learned.

Hey i think just about everyone in here really needs a tune-up and that includes me. i barely get 400kms out of my truck on a full tank. i think its time for a K&N filter and spark plugs. and i still have a power steering leak thatn needs to be takin care of but its too chili out for that still maybe a couple days and its time to get started.

I was able to get about 400-500 Kms on city driving. Depending on how i drive on my old 2001 pathfinder with the 3.5VQ.

I usually pump just over 50L of gas around the 350km mark, when the fuel gauge is at the second-last line. My guess was that I could go around 450km on an entire tank; though I just checked the manual and it says my Pathy has a 79L capacity. That works out to 553km... I'd never let the line get *that* low, though.

My '03 is just over 120,000km, so once it warms up a bit more I'll likely be changing plugs, filters, fluids, the whole shebang. Should make for a fun weekend... pizza, beer, and grease.

I get usually about 270-300 miles a tank

more accurate calculation is my mpg averages 16-19mpg (I got 19mpg doing 90% freeway at 75mph)

truck is freshly tuned up, but does run bigger tires and it is a qx4

Been gettting an average of 13-14 MPG around town, but having a whole bunch of stuff done this week (spark plugs, timing belt, transmission flush). I'll let you know what happens to the milage - Better go up!

My 03 gets roughly 400km in the city when its warm out, in the winter its terrible. The most i've ever seen out of the tank is 540km, but that was all highway with little city and when the wheels weren't stickin 2 inches out from the truck

There will probably be alot of MPG differences, between the 3.5 VQ engine and older 3.3L, and i think the qx4 is slightly heavier than the pathfinders which might make a little difference. there's also area in which people live in ex. sea level or higher altitude.

our 5 gallon reserve reminds me of what Jeep did to Wranglers in 1991-1995, I find it funny The base model Jeep had a "15 gallon tank" but you could pay extra for a 20 gallon tank as an option. What buyers didn't know is that ALL jeeps had 20 gallon tanks, but for the supposed 15 gallon tank, Jeep extended the vent hose to trick gas pumps into thinking it was full at 15 gal. So Jeep owners can simply shorten a rubber hose and gain 5 extra gallons in their tank Link: http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/fuel/15to20gal/

Just Curious, I just got my QX4 and I was wonder the same thing. As I am just over 255 miles since I last filled and creeping to the Empty mark. With that said i am using reg gas. Next I want to try premium, as it recommends it. But I want to see what I get better at.

Previous owner was using reg. gas.

So I see people commenting on the miles/km, but does not indicate if it was reg. gas or premium.

Thanks.

I want to build an extra tank & put it were my spare tire used to be (I know the Aussies & Kiwis do this sometimes)...

But anyway back on topic, I can run 280 miles & use 19.5 gal. doing so, plus I run 32" BFG mudd tires, sliders & a heavy-as$ custom roofrack & oh yeah I don't baby it either (on or offroad)

I've got a pretty much stock '01 PF, and I could probably get almost 400 milesout of 20 gallon tank on the highway. It gets about 15 MPG around town,19 on the freeway (I've seen 21 a couple of times). All on premium.

They have a knock sensor, and will pull back the spark advance if you runregular gas. Right now, premium gas is about 4% more expensive than regular. I'll bet you get that 4% back in mileage.

If you switch from regular to premium, do a few tanks in a row. The ECU seemsto be really quick to switch DOWN (good decision, knock can destroy an engine)and slow to switch UP.

Wind resistance is important. My 350 cu. in. 1987 Corvette gets 28 MPG on thehighway. It's not a big box like the PF (and tuned port injection is better thantrottle body injection (and direct injection is even better)).

well right now i am averageing about 300 miles a tank because my o2 sensor are bad but when they were good i was able to get about 250 miles to 3/4 tank so i am guessing aroud 320-340 for a full tank. Mixed driving.

Well 300 doesn't seem bad. But then again I don't know. May replace (check) air filter and fuel filter and start there. But right now I think I made about 270 miles on 87 octane. So I am ab out to fill and see how much gallon I fill to, to get my average. I would say it is about 60% highway miles.

I get about 240-250miles out of my 01 qx4, but I definetely dont use it all going from this thread, I take it to the E, but when I fill up, I usually dont pass 65liters.

So I'll have to do the proper math based on how much I used and how far I went next time.

In the summer, I can normally squeeze just about 400-420 km to 3/4 of a tank, but my fuel gauge is wonky, so i never let it get much below 1/4 of a tank. i have seen it at 1/4 , parked it for the night, and started it the next morning with the fuel light on. Unless someone is siphoning my gas....but in the winter right now, it's doing horrible, i get 16-18 L/100 km..

Ya, winter mileage is brutal.Combine city driving, lots of idling, and running a lot with either AWD or 4WD engaged (snowy streets), and I'm lucky to hit 325-350 Kms on a tank of gas. It's better in the summer.
