How big are the tanks for the s14's? I usually can pump in about 16 gallons, and most of the time get approx 290mpg. Is 17mpg average for city driving with auto? Doesnt this sound low for a 4 cylinder?

Well a 5 speed would get you better gas mileage...all things being equal, but the 240 is not great on gas. I'm not sure why. My SR on stock boost is getting around 225-250 on a tank. I don't always drive sensibly though. I did expect it to get better gas mileage than it does. The whole reason for this post is that someone didn't think they were getting enough miles per tank. Seems like gas mileage varies pretty wildly.

for s14, i read the specs and we're supposed to get 28 mpg freeway 22 mpg street. I get 400 or a little over.

Cruise control on the freewa/hiway is the way to go. It keeps the gas pretty much constant, so that is better.

EDIT: manual does give more gas milage, unless you just installed the 300zx fuel filter like some of us, and love to feel that pickup the KA has.

well nothing fuel saving-wise. but you will feel and notice how much faster your RPMs will rise. Acceleration will be a whole lot quicker. Mid and top ends will be more powerful.

If you are sluggish at the start (like my s14) it could be that your fuel filter is clogged. Of course, to change that, you would get a new filter. But the 300zx filter is much bigger, and i'm thinking that more fuel being filtered to the engine.

but yeah, i've seen a difference. It could be different with everyone's cars.

0.055 GPM (gallon per mile :D)

Leaking injector, smoking rich air fuel and turbo contribute the number :)

Does the 300zx filter fit right in & how much did it cost?

oh no nono. I got mine at auto zone. imma replace it with the nissan filter soon cause my friend bought one. It should still be less than 20 bux at a nissan dealership. My friend JUST bought his yesterday and it was about $15.

autozone = $14 < Nissan dealership = $15

What have you done to your car? I just learned that I have a larger throttle body on my car. That along with the 300ZX fuel filter probably take away from my gas mileage...but add to the performance. I'm getting around what everyone else is getting though, so it makes me feel a lot better.

i still get about 400. i don't floor it or anything. since i just got the car, i've only replaced the fuel filter. All I'm planning to do when i sell my 92 celica gt is to get Tein basic dampers (good enough for weekend drifting / touge racing), 5Zigen rims, and a used VLSD.

oh and why does your sig say that your 14 is slow? from what i know and driven, we have pretty fast cars

Perhaps I need to be more specific in my signature. My 96 200SX SE is the one that is slow. The 96 240SX SE has the SR in it and it's quite fast now. Having 2 cars the same year and same make that have screwed up names can be confusing. The 200SX actually has the GA16DE in it. So it shouldn't be named 200 anything really. The 240SX now has the SR20DET in it. So its closer to being a silvia than a 240sx since the 2.4L is gone.

Ive got about 200 miles down now, with just less than half tank left. So 450ish if I drove like an old man.

But then again, I drive an 89 accord.
