After spray painting your car, they typically lose 10-20 hp. I wouldn't suggest a rattle can job.

Probably from mental anguish...

Your car: "I can't believe he did this to me..."

Like the guy who spray bombed his KOUKI I saw that and cried on the inside ......Most horrid thing that you can do to your car.....Muslanne did a nice job but I wouldnt attempt to replicate that on my own vehicle.

Paint is paint.

Paint that comes in a can will last nearly as long as factory paint, if properly applied.

When body work is concerned you should think about prep work and 80% and paint 20%. It takes many hours to properly prep a car, and only a few to paint it.

I agree with a few above posters, that the spray bomb fad is dead. Its been done poorly many many times. That being said, my S14 is flat black, and has been so since spring of 2005. When I did it, I had never seen another spray bombed car, and for a long time it was unique. Now they are everywhere, I know of 3 S chassis in the local area that are rattle canned.

I am currently exploring paint options for my car, and it will be shinny again. Not because it needs it though, its because that is how I roll.

This is my car 2 months ago, after 4 years of MNs nasty weather, its difficult to notice any deterioration in the paint itself besides the obvious dents and scratches due to my ham fisted shenanigans.

people need to stop crying about rattle canned cars. if you don't like it , don't do it to yours, easy enough. i rattle canned my last car and the semi gloss black held up fine for about 2 years before i took it to the junkyard. it was never stored in a garage and i just used hi temp enamel with no clear. it held up fine, i've painted half of my current s13 with spray paint and i just got back from painting my brother's hatch and front bumper. its worked for me before and it can come out almost as good as a real paint job if prepped right and then buffed

I dont think anyone is crying but you are doing the owner/future owners of said car a great dis service by advocating that a $1 can of spray paint can rival that of REAL paint.....I respect your view and if it worked(s) for you go for it its your car.....However with the price of compressors and a decent gun being affordable I dont see why this is even an option nemore....I spray bombed my aero before full paint but for an entire car it is overkill and doesnt come out any better than whatever was on the car previously 90% if the time.....But as stated its your car do what you will

i'm not an idiot, i know a pro paint job is superior. i have a compressor and spray gun but no room to paint a whole car. i plan on getting a real paint job in the future and even have $600 worth on paint in my barn. but i'm not doing any "future owner" a disservice and i didn't use crappy cheap brand spray paint. i spend lots of time on the prep before spraying and a rattle canned job with good prep is better then body panels that are 8 colors.

my brothers bumper looked like this before

to this

and thats still not done yet

I rattled-canned my car temporarily, mainly because Karl Wasabi did his first and I was like meh, screw it.

It will have real paint someday soon, but for now, you can't even tell it was rattle canned so I'm okay with it.

My S12 has a can job on it, and it's about through. It's been 5 years, but it was primed correctly before the spray was done...

I believe in, do it right, or don't do it at all.

Not all paint is "paint" no way can you compare economical line paints like Nason to high end PPG or Dupont product lines. I don't care how much prep work you put into it.

But yes prep work is the key to any paint job, rattle can or HVLP

i live by the motto "do it right the first time" but sometimes it just isnt practical. i don't want to get a legit paint job until i get the minor surface rust patched and my full aero on. it doesnt make sense for me to get the minor rust taken care of now when the car doesnt even run yet, and even if i got the rust patched now i wouldn't get an actual paint job cuz i want to get the type x front lip to go on with the rest of the type x aero and be painted at the same time for a perfect match. and since the lip is $400 once again it isnt practical since the car doesnt run. once i am ready for paint i have all the supplies for nissan paint code b17 in du pont brand, but for the time being i'm not gonna rock a faded red car with green bumper, one green headlight cover and one black fender, so i rattle canned it

i rattle canned my hood flat black cause the florida sun baked the paint off of my hood, and now 4 years later i have my first chip. as long as you prep it properly it should last a while.
