How does metal polish work?

SAnding alum w/ 120 grit ? Dang - thats getting after it. I think I would have started at 600, then up to 1200 in stages. 120 leaves A LOT of sand scratches. The source material must have been REAL rough to start.

You doing the Intake Manifold or something? 120 grit on wheels seems gnarly!

I guess the reason for that has already been explained. The polishing compound removes the tiny pits and tips. And sanding to a higher grit would do most of that to begin with. So the compound would have less to remove/add.

Yeah, that's exactly what i'm doing

here are some pictures. I have only really got the top of it mostly done, but I'm still not satisfied with it yet

Note, the little "dimple" looking things where the Logo used to be were there to begin with. I don't really know what they're for.









Does anyone know what the horizontal bars are for on each side of the logo spot?
