HAH i'm just kidding Jacob, as I was about the hippie comment earlier also.
It's currently 4:23 and I am wide awake
Hey bro, you're three minutes late :bonghit
I had to quit smoking. It lost it's fun, and now I just get paranoid. Plus, I know it sounds corny, but there are better ways to get a natural "high" (like meditation

)
If meditation isn't your thing, here is another thing that has helped me get to sleep when my mind is too filled with distracting thoughts. It might help you too.
Set aside an hour (or more if you can) before you go to sleep to reflect upon your day, the things that are worrying you, and things you hope to accomplish. Even better, write it down in a journal. Come to some sort of resolution or closure for the day, and decide what can be dealt with at another time. Then, when you are trying to get to sleep, and the thoughts and worries start to creep into your head, tell yourself, I've already dealt with everything, and I'm going to sleep now.
I know, I know, it sounds pretty simple, and even stupid, but I swear it works. It keeps your brain from going on and on. All it takes is a little self control.
I'm sorry about the problems you have to deal with. No one should have go through that, or watch a loved one, especially a parent, deal with s*** like that. There are many options you can take to help both your mom and yourself get through this, but most likely you're going to have to take the first step. Good luck!
