I'm still learning, but getting better.
I learned how to drive manual in my buddy's jetta when I was 15. He let me putz around near my house. The rest has been research, instruction from other drivers, and tons of seat time in many many cars.

If you really want to learn how to drive manual transmissions, go out and start doing HPDE with NASA. The track is a great place to quench your need-for-speed. I started with performance driving when I was your age, and I wish I could have started earlier.

I learned to drive a stick back in 1993. Boy am I getting old! My parents help me buy my first car which was a Red 1988 300zx (Z31) with 40k miles on it. That is what I learned on. There are back roads around my parents house and me and my dad would switch places and he would coach me. I learned fairly quick that day and I have been driving a stick ever since. I really miss that Z31. She was so clean and I have a lot of good memories in that thing!

Got started in my Grandfather's 1978 Datsun B-210 back in 1981. Two trips around the block, and I was hooked.

Originally learned the basics on a 94 geo prizm that I bought for the sole purpose of learning to drive a manual/destroying it for $300. Destroyed it before I got any good. Learned skill and finesse on a motorcycle, 2003 SV650S.

I learned on my uncles rust bucket of a chevy 1500, i was 12. He asked me if i wanted to do some donuts in the field, i said hell ya. lol. Started walking towards the passenger door and he said, no your driving buddy. So basicly i just dumped the hell out of the clutch and then afterwards he taught me how to actually drive a stick. Killed it once on a hill, but havent killed a single vehicle since

i learned in a mid 90s Civic with my dad at a park, but most recently got lessons in a 91 Miata in my high school auto shop.

Lmao funny thing is i was being taught by a guy who is 6'8'' and was ridin passenger in this little a** Miata. I forgot to hold in the clutch when i hit the brake and the entire car felt as tho it was gonna explode! lmao good times...

But i have a damn 91 Maxima auto now... wanna get a 5-speed NAOW!!

I just bought my first car a week ago, a 5 speed S13. Learning has been a b**** so far, but I've pretty much got it down for now. Except when I'm on a slope at a stoplight. THAT's when things get tricky

Wow i forgot i posted here lol

Well I did learn on my car with a short shifter and a stage 1 clutch

I drive other cars and they feel sloppy if it does not have a short shifter or a aftermarket clutch cause i learned on that platform, makes me hate driving other peoples cars lol
