Just board and decided it would be a cool topic to post. Since theres a lot of people that dont know how. Moistly because I saw a person today that kept stalling out felt bad for the poor girl.

You may think its funny, i learned on my grandpas farm when i was about eleven driving it around the open fields and to my cousins house down the road.

I started with a stage 4 clutch, race flywheel and short shifter. Took me 4 hours and i could drive on the street. Couple of weeks and could run it on a track fine.

unfortunately i learned after getting my manual swap done. and i think it's because of that my clutch is slipping right now roughly 3-4000 miles later (supposedly brand new clutch installed). so yea this was when i was 20 yrs old. this was the only way to learn for me cause no1 i knew had a stick and i wanted to convert my car real bad.

my dad taught me in his old civic but he got in an accident with it shortly after my first lesson so I didn't have another manual to learn in until i picked up my 240.

I actually had noone to teach me, so I took 1.5 lessons, costing 85 bux and got it....then I got my piggy, and just started perfecting once I owned a manual....Right now my girlfriend is learning. She has a chuki coupe, and pretty much got the hang. She's just nervous, like I was when I first started drviing....Ahhh I love driving manual do much better than auto....oh and the car I leanred out was an old nissan sentra....the late 80s early 90s model. Didn't know for sure....

I started out when I was probaly 11 or 12 in my uncles yard truck Dodge D50 in the field.

Then when I got my permit it was my dads F150.

I perfected my skills on the Civics, Accords, CRVs, other types, and S2K's of my first job, and Toyotas of my current job.

LOL good timing with this thread. I just picked up a 5 speed s14. I got the basics down quick, now I just need to become smoother.

growing up, the only M/T in my family was my father's '68 GTO with a 400 in it...you know, look but don't touch for the kid. the first manual i drove was my buddy's early '90s sentra (aka nismo pooptra) at VT, but that was over 13 years ago and no M/T since. that's why i plan to keep the stock clutch when i do my swap, to knock off the rust

My father would let me at age 8 drive the Datsun 510 stationwagon on the 2 mile dirt road from the shoulder of the main road to the house. 4 cylinder 4 speed manual. Was the best car we ever had, over 300k miles before the speedometer cable broke, we drove it another 2 years and when he sold that car we saw it around town for another 3 years until we saw it no more.

Other than regular maintainance, the only things we done to that car was a tie rod broke as we were coming home with a replacement, and the rear hatch rusted in two under the glass. Noone makes a car that lasts that well nowadays =)

my bro in law taught me the basics in his CRX. It sounded so funny when I studdered second with his loud as exhaust. "BAW WOW WOW WOW WOOOOO!!" It made me laugh. He made me pull over and switch.

then I got my first 240, and the guy I bought it from drove me to the court house, then I drove him home. I wasn't very good at first, but I got in and did it with only killing it once. And it wasn't the first time I tried to go either.

I love driving a 5 speed, but I can definatly see when an auto would come in handy (like when I had to drive my wife on her paper route on night in my truck. My leg was toast by the end of the night, and so was my clutch. Stop and go for 3 to 4 hours strait). I'd own a car with an auto, but only a few. My 240s will always be five speeds, though. I don't think "sports cars" should have anything other than a stick, unless they have auto clutch manuals with paddle shifters.

I learned in my old 720 when I was 14. I got real good at feathering the gas and pressing the break at the same time. Cause the carb (damn hitachi carbs) was going out and the only way to keep it from dieing was to have you foot on the gas ahhh good times I Love my truck!

I learned how to drive MT back in Misawa, Japan. The car was a 4th gen toyota celica. My parents took me to this empty parking lot and let me at. Keep in mind I wasn't even legal to drive (I think I was 15), but o well. The fun part of this whole experience was that I learned in the snow.

I learned how to drive stick the day of my license. I took the test in an automatic car lol. :P

I then drove for about an hour or two and then I could drive manual good enough for the road. A couple days later, I never stalled and still don't.
