I learned by driving around in my neighborhood in my celica. I got the cops called on me for squeeling my wheels . It took me a few hours of practice before i could consistently take off on hills.

I had to read this a few times, my first thought was that your wife's boyfriend taught you how to drive a stick

Well Believe it or not my LITTLE brother taught me. About 3 years ago. I have only owned two hes on his 4th already because he finally got his 240. ANYWAYS

he would take me out to this road in his s10 pick up and tell me to move the car, after awhile i would start to just watch the rpm's and try and do everything by watching the cluster and shizzle. When he saw i was doing that he took out the fuse that keeps the cluster lit up and said from this point on i had to just " feel it out". Sure enough i felt it out and got it down pat!

Anyone feel stupid after they learned? As if they were making it out to be harder then it actually is? After you get the concept and know how it all works it kinda made me feel stupid haha.

On my cousins 1998 VR4 TT Modified, When I was 14. At the first tries I burn some rubber then the car would turn off on me. After a couple of hours I got it really well. Even on the way back to my cousins house, I raced a really riced out Honda and won. That was the first time I race a car . I guess that is why I love JDM.

When I was 14 my Dad bought a 66 Chevy truck with a straight 6 and a 3 on the tree. For those of you that don't know it is a 3 speed column shift manual transmission and it is not synchronized. You have to be at a dead stop to shift into first and you can't skip gears. Downshifting while moving is only possible from 3rd to 2nd. Anyhow Dad was putting a 327 in it and a new trans so he tossed me and my buddy the keys and said figure it out. This by the way was in a big open field. After a few minutes of grinding gears we were flying around the field doing donuts. Been driving standards ever since.

I learned in my 240 I have its my first car I bought it with my money my mom drove it home got it insured and registered and then she gave me the keys and said alright teach yourself to drive by tomorrow cause you have to drive to school. That day/night was the best learning experience of my life. I literally learned to drive a stick in 6 hours after that I was pretty good havent stalled for a long time. That whole stick shift being a thing in the past is gay I hope that doesnt happen because paddle shifters are bs I want to drive a stick for the rest of my life.

oh...i learned when i was about 13...i work at my dads auto shop with him (he owns the bussiness) and theres tons of cars coming in every single week going from 240sx's to porches...anyway at the end of the day i parked all the cars and sometimes the car were manual so i picked it up eventuly and then started driving our subby home (i was 14 lol when i did this) ya well thats how i learned...and its almost impossible to teach a kid 12 years and younger to drive a manual transmission because they are really immature and dont take it seariousley.

My buddy taught me in his mazda b series truck when I was 16. Learned in a big empty church parking lot. First thing he taught me was to drop the clutch @ 3000rpm. Then I was doing circles in 4th gear.

After I got my 240 I taught myself how to heel and toe down shift from watching BMI/Hot Version/Option videos, thanks to the footwell cameras in Keichi and Orido's cars.

Heel Toe is fun

Got in and did it...didnt need any instruction, the car was a 71 VW super beetle, that we later got drunk and flipped over. Thing had no power and no heat in the middle of the winter, and the taillights lit every time u push down the clutch.

When I was 16 I worked at a carlot and I was asked to move a jeep that was on the other side of a busy street and park it in the lot. So my first time was a matter of do it or get it basically. I already knew 'how' to just never applied it. I raced motorcycles and stuff when I was younger so I mean the knowledge was there. Easiest way is to learn what you should do and go out and do it.

I learned to drive m/t when one of my co-workers had a chainsaw accident. The work truck was filled with wood chip (around a ton) had a powerstearing leak and a crappy clutch. Kinda scary lol. I was the only one that had my licence (lazy 20 year old friend lol). I was 17 and got my licence the week before this little fiasco. I made it back to the shop fine like 2 stalls when i first started(good i think given the circumstance) and didnt stall anymore. Sadly when i bought my 240 it was a/t; lookin to do a swap soon tho and refine my skillz cuz it would have been fun if the truck wasnt a piece.

My friend in high school was a big drinker so I was always driving his busted 5 speed corolla around for him. A few weekends later I was a pro.

I learned on a 12 ton dump truck with 13 gears when i was 15...Try driving that prick around the backroads lol. Splitting gears and switching ranges was very hard on the head when ya dont even know how to drive a car...**** i only used the clutch to start from first gear then just jammed every gear in thereafter with a blip of the throttle.

On my current 240, 5 months ago. My father picked it up, drove it home. Then he said "this is the clutch, this is how you start it, and this is how you put it on first" Then he left.

So I would go out at 2 am until I learned how to drive it without stalling at lights and such.

hahah. i remember the days. my first car (that was actually mine) was a gsr integra. it actually had a few mods, one of them being a stage 2 clutch, which made learning a bit more difficult, but it also gave me the precision to drive basically any car from there on out. i loved that car.

actually, I learned very quickly. I went from stalling out ten times in a row on the backroads early one morning, to taking the car out to the movies with my girlfriend that same night. (being the first night of ownership!)

the best way to learn is to just man up and go driving (after learning the basics of course) in situations where you have to make decisions and be safe (trafficked areas). the more you drive, the better you get. as with anything in life, really.

that's my story if anyone cares. since then i've had another teg, a short lived s2000 experience, and now my coupe.

I made it home.

i learned how when i bought my first car, the 240. me and a buddy met a guy at his house in la to look at the car around 11pm. didnt have much any light to realy look at it so we drove to a gas station around the corner from his house. after deciding to buy it for 2k, we asked the guy to drive it across the street to a staterbros parking lot so i can drive around the lot learning to drive stick, then my buddy gave them a lift back to their place.
