Similar to my story! Learned on a Ford Ranger. Then, my second time ever driving a stick I was in a toyota tercel where you actually had to give some gas while lifting the clutch.... so I get stuck at a stoplight on my first hill and you know the rest of the story....the tires were spinning as I screeeeched up the hill! hahaha

I was stationed in Okinawa and i was taking over a billet that required me to drive a van, so a Marine took me out back where all the warehouses were kept and he taught me in one of those small japanese "pick up trucks" It felt preety cool learning stick shift while shifting with my left hand

Was told what to do. Never really got to drive any of my cousins cars until a lot of convincing, some lying and a lot of cleaning in his house -_- to get him to let me drive his car. So my first stick was a evo 9 with a twin plate. That thing is a beast. Now I'm waiting to buy a 240 to prefect my stick.

I was 15 and my mom had a 91 accord 5 speed (which I could not drive at the time ) well I wanted to go to pick up my girl she lived about 15 minutes away in the middle of nowhere. Well my mom didn’t want to go put she said if I could get the car out of the drive way then I could take it. after about 10 minutes me and my friend are rolling down the drive way (or sputtering) when I got back I was pretty good at driving a stick I still slipped the clutch to much in first and had the rpms to high but I could drive it. Well my mom didn’t think I was funny and said she really didn’t think I would make it out of the drive way.

So that’s my story I guess you could say I taught myself then all my friends. all my friends learned on the same car including some girl friends . But after that I said I would never own an a/t ever agene and it’s been all m/t sense then.

Mmm I remember I learned how to drive, my brother had s13 sr20det stage 3 clutch I think dont remember, but yeah he was playing tennis i asked him if i could drive his car he said sure. So i was messing around i kept peeling out then my friend who was his first time too was like hm, maybe if we let go of the clutch till it starts to shake then gas and let go of clutch. So i tried that out and it works perfectly! But now if im ever lazy i gas it like twice and drop the clutch and works perfectly fine! Hah werid, then he sold that s13...

And now i have one! haha

I know this would sound ridiculous but i learned how to drive manual transmission when i was in 4th grade. It was in a 1978 Toyota Corona. Then my dad finally gave me the freedom to drive without me sitting on his lap when i was in 5th grade. I love that Toyota Corona...man brings back memories

I learned on a 1960 Willy's Jeep on my grandfathers farm. After mastering that he let me drive the tractor !!. I was 11.

Oh, and to answer BMAR240SX, yes, I still do this sometimes, it is an old habit from driving my dad's 69 GTO that had bad sycro's but I find it easier to downshift that way sometimes.

Sometimes if I know the revs are way below what they would be when I let the clutch go. but most of the time about 1 second delay makes it just right.

unfortunely i learned by some arcade game it was really rare and had that "intial D" style theme lol. anyway it had a clutch and a 6 speed transmission. a couple days later i tried my uncles '89 240 and it wasnt hard at all it felt the same.... (truthfully i wished i could have learned the usual way haha)

I learned when I was 29 yaers old and I'm 30 now! LOL!! I did the manual swap before I knew how to drive it. The guy that swaped it for drove it over and I took him home in the wife's car. The next day, which was super bowl sunday, I learned from my wife's friend's boyfriend who taught me how to drive the car in 30 mins.. The way he explained the mt transmission to me, was It's like riding a 10 speed bike. The cain rasies up from the gear (clutch) and when it falls down you pedal (gas), then you go faster!! I taught three people this way!! funny huh!! at 30 learning how to drive a stick!
