Damn. I have an SL with CVT trans. Never city driven. RPM never over 3000rpm. The best I got was 271km @ half tank. I repeat, never city driven,no red lights. This car is a gas guzzler lol.
I typicaly get 250km at the quarter and 400km at the halfway mark. The low fuel light comes on at about 620km and I have run it as far as 675km. Too chicken to try any further.

So I guess my car DOES have a problem.

Mine lit up at 395 the other day. Not bad for two exact same cars. /end sarcasm

I do almost exclusively city driving. I get about 200 km at the quarter, 350 at the half and then I only get about 150 km on the bottom half of the tank for a total of about 450km a tank. Sucks.

The 1.8 Versa is not a 40 mpg car. Wonder about the 1.5.

i live in BC and i got the car for about 2 1/2 yrs now..It is a 2007 model, one of the first shipment.I'm consistently getting about 380 - 420 km/ fill-up at about 42 to 44 liters. I drove to seattle a couple of times, running mostly on highway and got roughly 550km on a full tank until the light comes on. Maybe I'll check the tires to see if they're fully inflated .

I bought my 2009 Versa Hatch 2.8SL 2 weeks ago. I have about quarter of a tank left and I am only at about 240km. I'm thinking that's really bad. However, I'm living in Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador (look it up if you need to) and temperatures are around -14C now but can go to -50 in the winter months. I have studded winter tires on and i've heard that makes the car harder on gas. I'm also getting used to driving her. I tend to spin my tires starting off from stop signs (which I know burns more gas)because the roads are really icy and will be until around April month. My driving is all short distances, lots of stopping and starting. I was hoping for about 400km a tank but I guess not this time. Hoping I get better km's when it warms up in summer.

Anybody got the 1.6 yet? What's it like on gas? I'm heading dealer this Saturday for service see if I can snoop one.

You re going to confuse those poor people who don't know any better!

Yea I really try to avoid starting her up in the morning too early. I only drive short distances though which really cuts down on the milleage. I am still really pleased with my purchase though. I was driving my parents Malibou back in Newfoundland before I got this car and even though I was driving longer distances I was still putting 20 bucks in here every 2 or 3 days. So happy I can get about 16 days out of a tank!Filled up the other day only cost me $37.00

i just measured today, 22.5 MPG. that kinda sucks.

should i get it checked out at the dealer?

i'm gonna suppose its because of hilly city driving (pittsburgh) in cold weather. i'll measure again on the freeway to NYC this xmas.

good thing there's costco gas :P

Incredible! I just filled up last night and wound up getting 24.8 MPG on this tank. This was mostly short trip driving so I was expecting lower milage then pure highway but this is pretty bad. After reading this thread I am going to take this to the dealer and see what they have to say about it. I am not expecting much but I wanted to give it a try. It just amazes me that a company like Nissan could not have come up with a way to get their entry level vehicle to get the same milage as the Aveo or Focus. I was hoping to get at least 27.

How about some details on your Versa. How many miles do you have? What's the transmission, CVT/6sp manual/4sp auto? Also, what exactly were the driving conditions like? I'm guessing it's pretty cold in MO - winter gas also will result in a couple MPG drop.

You say that it was "mostly short trip driving" but then you say that you "were expecting lower mileage than pure highway" ... "short trip driving" can net you mileage worse than pure city driving, too.

I'm not saying that I don't believe your mileage - just that you need to take into account all the factors that influence gas mileage. Our first tank with our Versa (CVT) was only about 25 MPG...our lifetime average with the car at 20k miles, however, is 30 MPG. You can't just focus on mileage from tank to tank - it's the bigger picture that will tell the story.

Just for the record, last time I checked, the Aveo has an EPA rating of 24/34 and the Focus 24/33 (city/highway). You could likely find plenty of owner experiences online for both of these not reaching and/or exceeding their EPA ratings, as well. That's why they're called 'guidelines' and not 'guarantees'.

Stats:2008 S with 4 speed auto (not CVT) with 6000 miles and as a matter of fact it is dang cold here. I guess my definition of short trip driving would be about equal to city driving. The short trips are generally things like getting the kids to soccer and such in the neighborhood.

Although I feel like I am driving like an old man, I'm starting to work on keeping the RPMs around 2k when I start off so I will wait and see. I did notice that the I30 gets worse MPG in the winter so I think I will take a little longer term view. Thanks for letting me vent!

My 07' Versa with the CVT powertrain, runs about 24 to 2500 RPM at cruising speeds, (about 65 to 70 mph) At these rpms I should be getting much better mpgs than the Versas with the standard transmission, based on the 3000 rpm's that the standards are running on the highway.

Those owners who are running 3000 rpms should be using at least 10% more gas than the CVT.

Yet on this and other mpg posts, there are lots of high MPG's being posted by the V's with standard transmissions. Nissan claims that the CVT gets better mpg's than the standard, not worse....to justify the extra $1000.00 we pay for the CVT.

The Versa is as ayrodynamic as a Brick but if you can get a break with a great Tail Wind you will see the mpg's shoot up in the high 30's. I run a constant scangauge check on mpgs and see some very strange numbers depending on wind conditions. It will jump 10 mpg higher even if you are driving in a 'side-wind' when you hit some sort of temporary buffer, like a big row of trees by the road, or even in the lee of a big rig that blocks the wind. If you get in the sweet spot behind a big truck, it will jump up to 40 mpg.

A dangerous spot that is out of the truck drivers view and road debris bouncing off the hood and windshield, I don't stay there for long.

My avg. highway mpg, run 27.

I do drive like an old Grampa, (hell, I am an old Grampa) right on the highway speed limits with the cruise set, even with the radar detector on.

I hate suprises.

The biggest suprise has been my Versas lousy mpgs.

Well, although I'm sure you know, but the EPA rates your car at 24/32. I'm not sure that there's much to complain about when you're getting nearly 25 MPG on said short trips.

Now 27 MPG on the highway @ 70 MPH with the CVT is something to complain about. Although I doubt any service tech could diagnose an issue with your car, something's obviously not right. What kind of city mileage do you get? Even in windy conditions at 80 MPH our Versa consistently turns in over 30 MPG.
