Just installed an autometer electric water temp gauge...it's just a 3 wire hookup, 1 to ground, 1 to the sender, and one to an ignition source. I have a good ground, it's wired to the sender (which is installed in the upper radiator hose), and I hooked up the ignition source to the cigarette lighter. The needle moves, but doesn't go past 100 deg. F., so it just barely moves when I turn the key then stays there the rest of the day.

I'm thinking my ignition wire is off. Where should I wire it to then? I just thought any constant 12v source would work, guess not though. Where is everybody elses wired to? Thanks alot.

it sounds like either the sender is messed or there is a bad connection. The cigarette lighter should be fine for power supply. Recheck all your wiring.

All of the wiring is just fine. I moved the ignition source to a different 12v source and it didn't change anything. The wiring is perfectly fine though....I'm guessing the sender is a dude then? Don't know how the hell that happened, it's a brand new gauge. Any way to test the sender to see if it's bad?

Well, I just heard that your supposed to ground out the water temp adapter...I didn't have a clue. Duh, that's probably what the other screw is in there for. Can anybody confirm this?

Yep, I'm an idiot...grounded the water temp adapter, and gauge is working just fine!

lol I didn't even know that. You think they would have put that on the directions. I guess I just got lucky where I put mine!

Yeah, I was talking to autometer customer service. They said that all inline hose water temp adapters should have an extra bolt/threaded hole to ground it out. Mine did at least, and that fixed my problem pronto. Works great now!
