So I'm looking to get some hid's for my s14 finally. I'm not very educated on the whole lighting category so I need some help here.
http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-H ... 35W-or-55W
First off, thats what I'm looking at. I'd like the whiteish color that you get with 6000k but want the 55w so will probably move up to 8000k. Will these fit in my current headlight housing and yada yda (stock zenki). Do I need anything extra to prevent error codes or is there really anything at all that I should be aware of when buying and installing hids

Thanks

If you go with the 55w I would go with the 5000K or 6000K because my friend put HIDs in his Talon and he has 55w 5000k and they are perfectly white.

You need projectors.

Please don't try to install HID's in those housings.

If you do it right, it will turn out fine. I have 6000k HIDs in my prelude (non projector), and while they aren't as nice as my 6000k Miata (projector), they ARE nice.

www.hidextra.com is a NICO sponsor, and pretty much gets you anything and everything you need, for a good price.

8000k is very blue for those in my OPINION, but it depends what you like. I can't really take the really blue lights. A 5000k or 6000k should be good.

Hmm, I can't seem to find any... here's a shot of the Prelude though. They look just a tiny bit blue when you look at them, but when you are behind them, its pretty much just white.

^For reference, the lights that are on my house are supposedly 5000k.

I'm checking out hidextra now. What's the difference between hi/lo kits and normal kits? Also I don't need a relay wire harness or anything like that do I? Definitely going with the 6000k now. Are yours in your prelude 55w or 35w?

I'm pretty sure they are just the 35w version.

The hi/low kits are for vehicles that use the same bulb for high and low beam I'm pretty sure... I just used the normal kit.

Kinda like one of those "use this to replace this bulb" type scenarios.
You don't need a relay wiring harness, but you DO need the balasts and bulbs, along with the wiring they give you.

So I'm just replacing the low beam bulbs right now. Will HB4/HB2/9003 Hi/Lo bulbs work for my car?

No idea. I bought a set of headlights back in the day that converted my 240 to H1s I believe.

I have the kit on my 240. Works perfectly. I would recommend going 35w. No need to go 55w. You'll blow fuses from what I'm told.

I just ordered the 35w 6000k. Are these still going to be brighter than stock? How was the install?

You will definitely notice a difference from stock. The install will take you significantly less time than it took to do mine, since I have pop-ups. I had to find place to mount everything without wires pinching or getting in the way when the headlights came up. It's pretty straight forward though.

Caveit, please do comment on the installation when you do it. I have a 96 as well and I will do this mod in the future.

No hidextra.com kind of sucks. I order a 6000k on my car and the only work with my high beam, I followed every single step, but nothing. I told them the low, but they say I had to purchased another set. So I was pretty disappointed. I say cancel it and look for a better seller or kit.

The kit was plug and play for my Miata, but required some minor stuff for my Prelude. The prelude has a pretty funky headlight wiring setup, so I wasn't surprised. I basically just had to solder some male tab connectors onto the ends of their wires and plug them into my factory headlight wiring. Not a big deal at all.

Get some clear lenses or else those HID's will look like poop.

Btw, asoomal is right. The cutoffs are going to be really bad, and most likely you'll end up being very annoying to drivers in front of you. But imo, you'll be driving so it doesn't matter. :gapteeth:

It won't be nearly as bad as lifted trucks with HIDs.

After reading some of the post i say some of the info is correct but I would highly recomend retrofitting your head light with projectors. Without projectors you wont get the full efficiency amd output of hid bulbs you will glare oncoming traffic and get flashed alot. Please check out this site it has a forum to get the info you need www.hidplanet.com
I would go with this set up
-Morimoto mini D2S or H1 projectors
-35w ballast
-philips hid 4300 or 5000k bulbs

Alright so im in the middle of installing my hids. The new bulbs are in the headlight and hooked up the harness. The harness is all hooked up as far as the ballasts and that crap goes. I just don't know how to get these suckers to light up. I have a negative wire running off of each bulb and a positive one on the passenger side. I also have one 3 prong plug that fits into where the old headlights went. Attached to the positive wire is two more silver prongs with what looks like an orange cap on them.

I plugged the 3 prong plug into the passenger side bulb holder and touched the positive and negative wire to the battery and the passenger side lit up but made a quiet buzzing noise. Anybody know what I should do?
